Job Summary The Occupational Medicine Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care focused on the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and management of work-related injuries and illnesses. The NP works in collaboration with physicians, employers, safety personnel, and healthcare providers to promote employee health, ensure regulatory compliance, and support safe return-to-work strategies.
Responsibilities • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat work-related injuries and illnesses in accordance with occupational health standards and regulatory guidelines. • Conduct pre-employment, periodic, and return-to-work physical examinations. • Perform functional capacity evaluations (FCEs), drug and alcohol testing, TB screenings, immunizations, and other health surveillance exams. • Collaborate with employers to support workers compensation claims and return-to-work planning. • Educate patients on injury prevention, ergonomics, safe work practices, and chronic disease management. • Maintain detailed documentation in compliance with OSHA, DOT, and state/federal guidelines. • Communicate with case managers, safety officers, and HR departments to coordinate employee care. • Participate in wellness and health promotion programs tailored to the workplace. • Assist in the development of occupational health protocols and policies. • Ensure timely and appropriate referral to specialty care as needed.
Qualifications • Masters or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. • If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, masters degree in nursing is preferred. • Experience in occupational medicine, urgent care, emergency medicine, or internal medicine preferred. • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice. • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice. • State Controlled Substance License if required by State. • National board certification as a Family FNP-BC or FNP-C, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care AGPCNP-BC, or A-GNP Adult ANP-C. • Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
