Nurse - Oncology

Oncology Nurse Requirements

Required Education & Licensure

• Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program.
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas or eligibility for Texas licensure.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Ability to maintain continuing education requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience.
• Oncology nursing experience strongly preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and patient education skills.
• Experience working in a clinic, specialty practice, or outpatient setting preferred

Oncology Nurse Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote continuity of patient care consistent with established standards and best practices.
• Assess patient health status through interviews, medical history reviews, and ongoing evaluations.
• Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and care plans.
• Deliver psychosocial support to patients and families throughout treatment.
• Facilitate clinical operations and support efficient patient care delivery.
• Manage medication refill requests received through pharmacy phone lines and accurately document information in patient records.
• Schedule consultations, diagnostic testing, pre-procedure evaluations, referrals, and follow-up appointments.
• Triage patient phone calls and document all relevant clinical information in patient charts.
• Coordinate communication between patients, families, providers, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Assist patients in identifying and accessing available community resources.
• Serve as a clinical resource for LPNs/LVNs and Medical Assistants.
• Collaborate with physicians and healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with organizational policies and standards.
