An 853-bed Magnet®-designated regional tertiary and quaternary care center in Asheville is seeking a Nurse Manager for its Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. This leading facility serves as the region’s only trauma center, comprehensive stroke center, Level III NICU, and children’s hospital in Western North Carolina.

Position Overview

This role provides operational and clinical leadership for a 19-bed Cardiovascular ICU, supported by a team of approximately 65 staff members working alongside nationally recognized physicians. The Nurse Manager is responsible for ensuring safe, high-quality patient care while maintaining strong operational performance across clinical, financial, and workforce domains.

The position requires close collaboration with nursing leadership and interdisciplinary teams to support strategic planning, performance improvement initiatives, and staff development within a highly specialized critical care environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit
• Manage staffing, scheduling, and workflow for a 19-bed ICU
• Integrate clinical, financial, and workforce data to guide operational decisions
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and professional nursing standards
• Promote evidence-based practice and high-quality cardiovascular critical care
• Support recruitment, retention, onboarding, and development of nursing staff
• Collaborate with nursing leadership on organizational planning and initiative evaluation
• Contribute to quality improvement, patient safety, and performance outcomes
• Provide mentorship and professional development for staff, students, and colleagues
• Participate in administrative on-call rotation approximately once every six weeks

Qualifications

• BSN required; MSN or equivalent preferred
• Active Registered Nurse license in North Carolina or eligible under compact licensure
• National certification in nursing leadership or clinical specialty required within one year of hire
• BLS certification required
• Minimum of 5 years of recent nursing experience required
• At least 2 years of acute care hospital experience with demonstrated leadership responsibility required
• Post-cardiothoracic ICU experience required
• Charge nurse or manager-level leadership experience required
