Nurse Manager, Cardiology Services

QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Formal Training / Licensure / Certification / Experience

• Graduate of an approved School of Nursing with a current North Carolina RN license or RN multi‑state licensure privilege through the Nurse Licensure Compact
• BSN required; Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred
• Minimum five (5) years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in cardiology or cardiothoracic services
• Minimum two (2) years of supervisory or nurse leadership experience
• Minimum five (5) years of ambulatory or private clinic operational management experience

Proficiency with Epic EMR, scheduling systems, in‑basket/work queue management, and operational reporting.

Must be able to comprehend complex information, serve as a positive role model, remain flexible and open to change, and function effectively under pressure. Maintains professional and clinical competency appropriate to the services provided and patient populations served.

MAJOR COMPONENTS OF THE ROLE

1. Development, Implementation, and Evaluation of Cardiology Services

• Provides strategic and operational leadership for cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, and chest services across ambulatory settings
• Implements service objectives supporting access, growth, quality outcomes, and patient experience
• Evaluates clinical programs and workflows to ensure alignment with organizational goals and best practices

2. Clinical Operations and Process Management

• Provides dual leadership for administrative operations and nursing/clinical services across Cardiology clinics
• Oversees day‑to‑day clinic operations including staffing models, scheduling templates, patient flow, referrals, and authorizations
• Ensures efficient Epic workflows, including in‑basket and work queue management
• Prepares and reviews operational, quality, and productivity reports
• Supports payroll processes, administrative documentation, and staffing oversight

3. Nursing and Clinical Leadership

• Provides oversight of nursing practice to ensure evidence‑based standards across cardiology services
• Supervises RNs, LPNs, nursing assistants, and clinical support roles; ensures competency validation and skill maintenance
• Leads staffing plans, schedules, cross‑training, and coverage strategies
• Oversees safety, infection prevention, and quality programs; ensures regulatory readiness
• Maintains clinical knowledge sufficient to provide leadership oversight of triage, EKGs, wound care, post‑operative surgical management, and device‑related workflows

4. Clinical Coordination for CVT, Heart Failure, and General Cardiology

• Oversees RN‑led coordination of pre‑ and post‑operative cardiothoracic surgical care, comprehensive heart failure clinic management, and longitudinal general cardiology services
• Ensures processes are in place for chart preparation, diagnostic coordination, Epic documentation, individualized care plan updates, and follow‑up scheduling across CT, HF, and cardiology clinics
• Provides leadership oversight for triage workflows, timely lab and imaging review, medication reconciliation, and escalation protocols
• Ensures completion of consents, pre-procedure and pre‑operative documentation, surgical and procedural authorizations, and readiness for OR, cath lab, imaging, and specialty evaluations
• Provides direct clinical and operational coverage for any subspecialty during staff absences or vacancies to ensure uninterrupted patient care and clinic operations

5. Provider, Hospital, and Interdepartmental Collaboration

• Serves as a key operational and clinical resource for employed providers and referral partners
• Coordinates care across imaging, OR, cath lab, home health, navigation teams, and inpatient services
• Facilitates communication between clinics, hospital departments, and leadership to ensure seamless patient care

6. Compliance, Accreditation, and Regulatory Oversight

• Coordinates accreditation, regulatory readiness, and compliance activities as applicable
• Ensures adherence to DNV, CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, OIG, and state/federal regulations
• Leads audit readiness, policy compliance, and corrective action planning

7. Financial and Resource Stewardship

• Participates in development and management of operating and capital budgets
• Monitors staffing productivity, supply utilization, and cost controls
• Supports revenue cycle workflows through accurate clinical documentation and operational alignment

8. Performance Monitoring and Outcomes

• Uses defined Key Performance Indicators to monitor performance across services, including:
• • Access & Flow: lead time, template utilization, no‑show rates
  • Quality & Safety: audits, incident reporting, competency completion
  • Patient Experience: complaint resolution and satisfaction trends
  • People & Culture: turnover, vacancies, staffing coverage
  • Financial: productivity and supply expense management
