Job Title: Gynecologic Oncology Registered Nurse

Job Description

This role provides specialized clinical support to gynecologic oncology patients by delivering education, triage, and ongoing care coordination throughout their treatment journey. The nurse serves as a central point of contact for patients and providers, ensuring that care plans are clearly communicated, appointments and procedures are efficiently organized, and clinical information is accurately documented in the electronic medical record. The position combines direct patient interaction with a high level of administrative and coordination responsibilities in a fast-paced oncology clinic setting.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary clinical support resource for gynecologic oncology patients, providing education, guidance, and ongoing care coordination throughout treatment.
  • Perform triage of patient calls, portal messages, and clinical inquiries by assessing concerns, prioritizing needs, and facilitating appropriate follow-up with providers.
  • Support physicians and Advanced Practice Providers by managing patient communications, coordinating care plans, and addressing patient needs between appointments.
  • Coordinate chemotherapy patient care by ensuring required laboratory work, imaging, and diagnostic testing are completed prior to appointments and treatment sessions.
  • Review pre-operative instructions and education with patients to ensure they understand procedures, preparation requirements, and recovery expectations.
  • Conduct post-operative follow-up calls to assess patient status, reinforce care instructions, and escalate concerns to providers as appropriate.
  • Submit, track, and coordinate prior authorizations, referrals, diagnostic testing requests, and specialty procedures to support patient care plans.
  • Schedule patient appointments, diagnostic testing, procedures, surgeries, and hospital admissions in accordance with provider orders and clinical priorities.
  • Manage incoming referrals and medical records, ensuring accurate documentation and timely coordination between providers, facilities, and patients.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation within the Electronic Medical Record and Electronic Health Record systems, including patient interactions, care coordination activities, and clinical updates.
  • Answer and respond to patient inquiries regarding treatment plans, test results, referrals, and care coordination needs in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, medical assistants, and clinical staff to ensure efficient clinic operations and continuity of care.
  • Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of individualized patient care plans in alignment with clinical guidelines and patient needs.
  • Perform administrative duties such as chart preparation, medical records management, correspondence, scheduling, and general clinic support.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by maintaining a compassionate, professional, and patient-centered approach in all interactions.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment while remaining self-sufficient and demonstrating strong critical thinking skills.

Essential Skills

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum 2+ years of gynecology experience.
  • Oncology experience strongly preferred, with familiarity in oncology nursing and patient support.
  • Experience with patient triage, care coordination, and managing high volumes of patient communications.
  • Strong knowledge of medical records, referrals, authorizations, and EMR/EHR documentation.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical record and electronic health record systems.
  • Solid understanding of medical terminology.
  • Ability to work independently in a highly administrative, patient-support focused role.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills to handle a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, with a patient-centered approach.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and the ability to make sound clinical judgments.
  • Ability to provide high-quality care and support in an oncology setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in oncology nursing or gynecologic oncology is highly desirable
  • Administrative skills including scheduling, chart preparation, and records management.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced clinic environment while remaining self-sufficient.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary clinical teams.

Work Environment

This position is based in a fast-paced gynecologic oncology clinic that emphasizes a supportive and collaborative culture. The schedule is Monday through Friday, typically from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or until the last patient is seen, with no weekend shifts. The role involves extensive use of electronic medical record and electronic health record systems, as well as coordination of chemotherapy treatments, diagnostic testing, surgeries, and hospital admissions. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $53.00/hr.
