Job Description

Summary/objective

The Radioisotope Production Specialist position plays a key role in the production of various medical radioisotopes using methods developed at Niowave. The products will be shipped around the world for use in cancer therapies. The NRPS loves details, precision and finds standardized work in which deviation could cause an undesirable outcome to be invigorating. This role finds analyzing processes and results to control variations and discussing when improvements would best be introduced is a desirable pastime. Essential Functions

  • Executes production of medical radioisotope products (including raw material preparation, handling production targets, l cleaning equipment/instrument setup, operating radiation detectors, etc.).
  • Maintains compliance with cGMP practices; participating in quality training and event retrospectives.
  • Implements production methods to resolve problems and accomplish specific objectives.
  • Operates at a consistent and exemplary level of efficiency, producing high quality and accurate results.
  • Participates in periodic reviews of component labor routing, material requirements, and manufacturing procedures.
  • Participates in new product / process transfers and validations.
  • Contributes to inventory management, including cleaning supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Demonstrates accountability of self in following radiation and general safety procedures and promotes a culture of safety by helping others to do the same.
  • Maintains records in a comprehensive, reproducible, and accurate manner.
  • Cold material preparation including preparing c. radium targets, detectors and fixtures, and processing equipment.
  • Commission new equipment with radioactive and non-radioactive material.
  • Handle and process radioactive waste

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in nuclear engineering, applied physics, or related field.
    • Equivalent Experience: High school diploma with 2-4 years of industry experience.
    • Equivalent Experience: Associate degree with 1-2 years of industry experience.
  • Courses/degree in STEM field (science, technology, engineering, mathematics)
    • Physics, engineering, nuclear sciences, or related field desired

Preferred Education and Experience

In addition to the minimum education/experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with 1+ years of experience in nuclear engineering, applied physics, or related field.
  • Experience in a chemical laboratory, radiological facility, or related field.
  • 1+ years' experience working with any or all of the following:
    1. Radioactive material
    2. Ongoing/routine production
    3. cGMP regulated work
  • Trained forklift operator

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk and hear; wear safety glasses, goggles, gloves, and Tyvek suit; handle chemicals, solutions, and/or radioactive materials. Ability to lift or move products and supplies, up to 50 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/Travel

  • Full-time position.
  • Company's standard operating hours are Monday thru Friday 6a - 6p with production related activities requiring 24/7/365 shifts. This position will be assigned to a shift rotation.
  • Niowave has multiple locations within the Lansing area. Travel between locations is expected in the role.
