Step into a day overseeing critical nuclear inspections

By mid-morning you’ve reviewed Earned Value metrics, aligned your team of 10–30 specialists, and are coordinating automated/robotic inspections of a reactor vessel head. In the afternoon, you shift to manual Balance-of-Plant (BOP) examinations—pressurizer and steam generator girth welds, Class 1/2/3 piping, snubbers, and containment liner and concrete—tracking scope, cost, and schedule to the baselines you authored. You close the day by updating stakeholders and logging lessons learned for continuous improvement.

Where you’ll sit in the organization

You will report to the Manager of Reactor & BOP Inspection Operations and be based out of our Waltz Mill facility in Madison, PA. This is a mobile role with on-site presence expected 2–3 days per week.

What you will lead

  • Own project management processes for medium-complexity efforts or defined portions of highly complex programs; supervise teams averaging 10–30, including project controls and sub-project managers.
  • Serve as Technical Inputs Lead on medium-complexity proposal efforts; act as deputy project manager on highly complex projects with guidance from a Program Manager or higher.

Plan. Execute. Control. Close.

  • Planning: Develop comprehensive project plans and establish scope, schedule, and cost baselines.
  • Execution, monitoring, and control:
    • Drive contract profitability; acquire and align resources per department protocols.
    • Manage scope, schedule, cost, risk, procurement, quality, resources, communications, and stakeholders using effective delegation.
    • Interpret and communicate contract requirements and changes through an integrated change management process.
    • Prepare or oversee cost forecasts and progress assessments, including Earned Value Management, to meet performance and financial reporting needs.
    • Review expenditures for compliance with approved baselines and scope.
    • Promote teamwork and transparent communication; publish metrics and process maps to keep customers and stakeholders informed.
    • Build and maintain project databases, systems, and procedures to handle correspondence and documentation efficiently.
  • Closing: Archive in financial, scheduling, document, and resource tools; complete final quality assessments; capture lessons learned, improvement ideas, and risk-avoidance guidance.

Relationships that fuel success

  • Act as the single face to customers, architect engineers, constructors, and internal business areas for your project.
  • Integrate objectives and actions with other project groups; coordinate with suppliers and Westinghouse in-country representation for international work.
  • Continuously identify, assess, and implement improvements to elevate performance.

Your background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field; or equivalent non-degreed technical experience in industrial environments (field service, nuclear, power plant, NDE, oil/gas, construction). Preferred: Bachelor’s in Project Management or Engineering.
  • 1–3 years as a project manager or 3+ years in a technical role across the above industries; preferred: 2+ years of PM experience in engineering, manufacturing, nuclear, or construction.
  • Familiarity with PMI’s PMBOK.
  • Competencies: Communication, Driving for Results, Employee Development, Planning & Organization, Strategic Thinking, Teamwork.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills—lead complex teams, communicate clearly, build executive relationships, and make sound decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills; strong proficiency in scheduling, cost, and risk management tools and processes (e.g., Primavera, SAP, Active Risk Manager, or similar).
  • Fluency in transforming data into visual insights; understanding of database concepts and cross-functional touchpoints (Finance, Legal, Quality, Supply Chain).
  • High-impact presentation skills.
  • Completion of Westinghouse systems, procedures, and policies training for assigned work. Preferred: Broad knowledge of nuclear power plants and familiarity with utility operations, maintenance, engineering, procurement, and material management.
  • Westinghouse Project Manager qualification in progress or eligible; external candidates complete qualification within the designated timeframe.
