Job Title: Nuclear Engineer V – Instrumentation & Controls (I&C)
Job Type: Contract
Pay Rate: Up to $115/hour DOE
Work Model: Onsite
Schedule: Full-Time (40 hours/week)

Position Overview

System One is seeking an experienced Nuclear Engineer V – Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) to support major nuclear power plant modifications, upgrades, and new project initiatives. This senior-level engineering role will lead complex I&C design efforts, provide technical oversight, and support the implementation of digital and analog control systems within commercial nuclear facilities.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive nuclear industry experience, strong technical leadership skills, and a proven track record delivering engineering solutions in regulated nuclear environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering and design activities supporting nuclear power plant upgrades and modernization projects.
  • Develop engineering specifications, design criteria, calculations, and modification packages for I&C systems.
  • Define and implement control system architectures, instrumentation selection, and control I/O interfaces.
  • Design and evaluate digital and analog control system strategies in accordance with NRC regulations and industry standards.
  • Review, check, and approve engineering designs, drawings, calculations, and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, vendors, and plant stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineering staff and project teams.
  • Support project planning, budgeting, scheduling, scope management, and quality objectives.
  • Conduct plant walkdowns, equipment assessments, site evaluations, and field support activities.
  • Support implementation activities and resolve technical issues during project execution.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Chemical, Computer, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum 18 years of engineering experience, including 8+ years supporting commercial nuclear power facilities.
  • Strong experience with digital and analog control systems in nuclear power applications.
  • Working knowledge of nuclear plant operations, engineering processes, procedures, and licensing requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access.
  • Ability to successfully complete security screening and drug testing requirements.
  • Willingness to travel to nuclear facilities as needed.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to perform field walkdowns in operating industrial and nuclear plant environments.
  • Ability to climb ladders, navigate stairs, access confined spaces, and work in varying environmental conditions.
  • Ability to wear required PPE and work in controlled and hazardous work environments.
  • Availability to work overtime when required to support project schedules.
