Make a difference as a Nonprofit Housing Navigator for Alternative Courts

Housing Solutions Tulsa is on the lookout for a dynamic professional to fill the vital role of Housing Navigator within the Tulsa County Alternative Courts and JusticeLink. This position is integral to supporting court and diversion hub participants, case managers, and justice navigators as they seek housing assistance. As a compassionate and organized individual, you will engage with justice-involved Tulsans facing housing barriers and work collaboratively with JusticeLink resource navigators to assess housing needs.

Key responsibilities include serving as a housing contact at the Tulsa County Alternative Courts, providing in-court navigation assistance to qualified clients, and facilitating connections to appropriate resources. Your role will also involve assisting with JusticeLink intakes and updating housing assessments in the HMIS system. Additionally, you’ll actively participate in coordinated entry, case conferencing, and support data reporting efforts.

Proficiency in handling interactions professionally and tactfully with justice-involved Tulsans, JusticeLink staff, and community partners is crucial. You must communicate clearly and neutrally with individuals from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with disabilities and non-native English speakers. A strong sensitivity to the needs of systemically disadvantaged populations aligns with our mission to build equitable systems of care.

Excellent time management skills are necessary, alongside the capacity to multi-task and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Critical thinking skills are vital for navigating complex systems and advocating successfully for clients. Applicants should be familiar with standard software tools, particularly the Microsoft Office suite. A GED or high school diploma is required, while a bachelor’s degree and relevant experience in housing or criminal justice are preferred.

A valid driver’s license and auto insurance are essential for this role.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • Able to deal tactfully, work cooperatively and professionally, and communicate effectively with the public—including justice-involved Tulsans with active cases—as well as JusticeLink staff, justice system stakeholders, and partner organizations.
  • Communicate effectively, neutrally, and clearly with individuals of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds including persons with disabilities and non-native English speakers.
  • Ability to work with and be sensitive to the needs of diverse, systemically disadvantaged populations and support Housing Solution’s commitment to building equitable systems of care.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment while exercising sound judgment.
  • A critical thinker, able to navigate and advocate across systems and sectors to produce results for clients and their case managers
  • Intermediate level of computer software programs specifically the Microsoft Office suite of applications
  • A GED or high school diploma is required, and a bachelor’s degree is preferred. Related experience will be considered in lieu of educational requirements.
  • 1-2 years of experience working in housing, case management, criminal justice, or intake services preferred.
  • Experience in affordable or supportive housing preferred
  • Experience working with justice-involved individuals and/or peer-related experience preferred
  • A valid driver’s license and auto insurance is required
