Job Title: NOC Network Engineer
Location: Fairfax, VA
Type: Contract to hire
Contractor Work Model: Hybrid – onsite and remote
Hours: 40.0 hours per week

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced-level support for network incidents, problems, and change requests escalated from Tier 1 and Tier 2 support teams. Diagnose and resolve complex network issues related to routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, WAN accelerators, wireless devices, and other network devices.
  • Conduct thorough root cause analysis for network incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and service providers to troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues.
  • Perform network performance monitoring and capacity planning to ensure optimal network performance and scalability.
  • Design and implement network changes, upgrades, and additions following best practices and change management protocols.
  • Document network configurations, processes, and procedures to maintain accurate network records.
  • Develop project requirements in collaboration with team members and other departments; participate in team meetings and provide project updates.
  • Perform quality checks on network configurations; ensure adherence to safety protocols and organizational standards.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain network equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • Install, patch, configure, and optimize network hardware to meet evolving business needs.
  • Design, configure, and optimize 802.11x wireless environments for enterprise connectivity.
  • Utilize monitoring tools to analyze performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and recommend improvements.
  • Collaborate with security teams to implement network security measures and ensure compliance.
Requirements
  • Possession of an associate's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, electronics, or a related field; plus four years' network and/or telecommunications experience; or a bachelor's degree in such fields; plus two years' experience in network or telecommunications system design, analysis, installation, and troubleshooting.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Complete a criminal background check and driving record check.
  • This position is classified as emergency/essential services personnel; reporting during inclement weather or emergencies is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of VLAN, VRF, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, VPN, STP, DHCP, Trunk, and 802.11 standards.
  • Hands-on experience with major network equipment manufacturers' hardware and systems such as SolarWinds, Splunk, Catalyst Center, ISE, Nexus Dashboard or equivalents.
  • Automation experience with scripting languages like Python.
  • Experience with datacenter technologies including Leaf and Spine VxLAN architectures, VxLAN multi-datacenter environments, and SDN tools like NSX-T.
  • Familiarity with IP Address Management (IPAM) systems such as InfoBlox.
  • Experience with network incident management and support practices.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, including cable infrastructure expertise (Ethernet, fiber optics, patching panels).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a focus on customer service.
