SUMMARY
The Shift Supervisor will plan and organize the nursing care for Elders of Brethren Retirement Community. He/She will directly supervise the licensed nursing Care Partners, Resident Assistants and STNAs. The major functions of this job are: to provide leadership within the department to meet program goals and objectives; to provide leadership in a smooth transition of elders moving in and out of the facility and to maintain and respect all laws, rules and regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

· Supervise and mentor licensed nursing Care Partners and unlicensed Care Partners in quality Elder services.
· Direct day-to-day operations of the neighborhood. This includes reviewing the care provided to Elders for a 24-hour period.
· Provide leadership and support for the resident-centered care model.
· Assure quality of care by performing audits on issues such as, but not limited to: skin, falls, restraints, care plans, and infection control.
· Utilize reports in PCC or other electronic medical record software. Teach and monitor licensed nurses in the use of the software.
· Make regular rounds to visit acutely/terminally ill Elders and newly admitted or transferred Elders and assisting the Charge Nurses in assessing Elder needs.
· Support the licensed nursing Care Partners to meet Elder needs which may include but are not limited to emergency situations, admission and discharge of Elders and daily care.
· Assist in the admission/placement/transfer of Elders to the proper level of care.
· Resolve problem situations referred to him/her by the Charge Nurse after their attempts at resolution have proven futile.
· Serve as a liaison/multi-disciplinary team member between Care Partners, administration, Elders, family, physicians, and other community members to maintain good rapport and public relations.
· Actively participate in the Nurse Manager on call rotation.
· Assist with other duties as necessary for smooth operation.
· Complete audits as assigned.
· Maintain a qualified, efficient Nursing Staff:
o Make daily contact with Care Partners on the neighborhoods, observing techniques and services rendered by Care Partners to ensure adherence to quality guidelines.
o Assist with the orientation of new Nursing Care Partners and providing recommendations regarding educational needs of current Care Partners.
o Coach, teach and counsel the nursing Care Partners.
o Review and make recommendations for revision and updating of policies and procedures.
o Participate in the assessment and identification of Care Partner needs, recruitment, hiring and the scheduling of hours within budgetary constraints.
o Evaluate job performance of nursing Care Partners.
· Enhance professional and personal growth and development by:
o Attended educational programs, in-services and scheduled meetings.
o Pursue advanced practice certification, college courses, etc.
o Direct and control assigned operations and information to maintain sound privacy and security practices and prevent privacy or security breaches. If a breach occurs, take corrective action.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervise the licensed nursing Care Partners and the nursing assistants. He/She performs supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training Care Partners, planning, assigning and directly work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining Care Partners; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Licensed in State of Ohio as a Licensed Nurse.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and one-year experience as competent nurse practitioner in supervisory management capacity. Ability to manage basic skills inherent in operating the computers.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
