Title: New Business Development Representative – Wholesale Fuel

Position Overview

Our client, a growing wholesale fuel distributor, is seeking a driven, entrepreneurial New Business Development Representative to develop branded wholesale fuel business throughout North Carolina and South Carolina. This is a true hunter role focused exclusively on generating new business. Unlike traditional territory sales positions, this role focuses on identifying opportunities, building relationships, and closing new branded fuel supply agreements with independent convenience store and gas station owners. Once a new customer has been successfully onboarded, the ongoing account management and operational support transition to an internal team, allowing you to stay focused on building pipeline and winning new business. The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has experience calling on independent business owners, convenience stores, fuel retailers, and similar small-business customers and understands that success comes from persistence, relationship-building, and consistent prospecting. While previous fuel industry experience is highly desirable, we're also interested in candidates with strong B2B business development experience selling into owner-operated businesses. This role is best suited for someone who enjoys building relationships with local business owners—not someone whose experience has been focused exclusively on large corporate or enterprise accounts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience (2+ years within wholesale fuel, jobber networks, or fuel distribution)
  • Minimum of 3 years of successful B2B business development or outside sales experience
  • Demonstrated success in prospecting, cold calling, canvassing, networking, and developing new business opportunities
  • Proven ability to build and manage a healthy sales pipeline from initial contact through closing
  • Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational and territory management abilities
  • Experience utilizing CRM software to manage sales activity and opportunities
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel throughout North Carolina and South Carolina, including occasional overnight travel
  • Must currently reside within North Carolina or South Carolina (Charlotte or Western North Carolina preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Develop a new branded wholesale fuel supply business throughout North Carolina and South Carolina.
  • Prospect through cold calling, in-person visits, networking, referrals, trade associations, and community involvement.
  • Build and maintain a robust sales pipeline while consistently identifying new business opportunities.
  • Establish relationships with independent convenience store owners, fuel retailers, and prospective dealer partners.
  • Negotiate and close long-term branded fuel supply agreements.
  • Learn branded fuel marketing programs and communicate their value to prospective customers.
  • Partner with internal operations and onboarding teams to ensure a seamless customer transition following contract execution.
  • Monitor fuel market trends, competitive activity, and industry developments to identify opportunities.
  • Represent the organization at trade shows, customer events, and industry association meetings.
  • Consistently achieve and exceed new business development goals while expanding the company's presence throughout the Carolinas.
