Network Technician – Wired and WirelessLocation: Teacher Administration Center, 3215 Cuming Street, Omaha, NEReports To: IMS Technical Support CoordinatorWork Schedule/FLSA Status: 261-day 12-month / Salaried exemptSalary: $81,579.10 per year (Technician 4-S26/91D)Starting Date: ImmediatelyJob Purpose: Provide wired and wireless installations, assist with network, voice, and video configurations and installations.Essential Performance ResponsibilitiesConfigure Cisco switches.Install Catalyst switches.Troubleshoot all switch issues.Install VOIP phones in buildings.Maintain and troubleshoot phone issues.Install wireless technologies as directed.Assist building technicians with wireless installations and train as appropriate.Perform high‑density wireless surveys both pre‑ and post‑deployment.Ensure network addresses are assigned properly.Troubleshoot cable and/or fiber issues.Monitor wireless work tickets and ensure appropriate resolution is provided.Interface with technology vendors as appropriate.Escalate network problems to the Network Analyst‑Wired and Wireless and to IMS management as needed.Provide input and knowledge as needed to others on the Network Services team.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesHigh school diploma or GED required.Associate's degree in computer technology, preferred.Minimum of three years of experience in telecommunications/networking‑related industry, preferred.Basic knowledge of Cisco Catalyst switches.Basic WAN/LAN experience level.Basic knowledge of PRTG Network Monitoring, Wireshark, and VoIP.Experience with wireless networking equipment and Wi‑Fi.Experience with fiber optic and copper cabling/wiring installation techniques and practices.Understanding of various types of operating systems and multimedia technologies.Understanding of voice services.Ability to configure Cisco switches, implement wireless solutions, and use built‑in tools to troubleshoot wireless issues.Ability to document and prepare system diagrams of networking workflows and procedures.Ability to plan, organize, problem‑solve, and think abstractly.Ability to monitor and maintain network equipment and data circuits.Ability to understand technical manuals and procedural documentation, and keep documentation up to date.Ability to work well with others, maintain a positive attitude, and communicate effectively.Ability to work hours outside of the normal schedule with little or no advance notice.Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.Skills in positive human relationships in a multicultural urban setting.License in good standing and ability to travel throughout the District.Additional DutiesPerform other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and central office administrators.EquipmentAbility to use basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and a fax machine, and to comply with OPS guidelines for equipment use.TravelRegular travel within the District will be required.Physical and Mental Demands, Work HazardsMust respond rapidly in emergency situations.Must have strong organization, time‑management, communication, and interpersonal skills.Work in school building and central office environments.InterrelationsContact with district personnel, customers, and vendors.Work under the direct supervision of the department supervisor.Engage with a diverse population and handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.Respond to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.Provide quick, responsive customer service to all internal and external customers.Employee Punctuality and AppearancePerform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours unless approved leave.Any deviation from assigned hours requires prior approval from supervisor or building administrator.Report to work dressed in a manner reflecting a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and appropriate for the position.Terms of EmploymentThis full‑time, exempt, classified position is governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in Nebraska public schools and Board of Education policies.
