Network Engineer

Location: Waukegan, IL Rate: DOE $/hr. Position Type: Contract Interview Process: Phone Followed by F2F

Core Job Responsibilities:
  • Plans and designs innovative enterprise-wide network solutions that include integrated financial analysis of technical alternatives to meet business and redundancy requirements.
  • Produces design documentation to install WAN or Border equipment
  • Produces and maintains timely, accurate documentation to coordinate implementations, support operations, and quality and compliance requirements.
  • Designs system tests, performs capacity planning, and continuously optimize traffic flows through the network and border infrastructure.
  • Follows the infrastructure change management process to implement the WAN and Border equipment changes.
  • Applies experience to improve functional area business processes.
  • Leverages tools to enhance functional area productivity.
  • Provides technical direction in all areas of expertise.
  • Integrates technical knowledge with communication and business skills.
Position Accountability / Scope:
  • Demonstrates a strong customer-centric approach, has empathy for global cultural differences, and excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Demonstrated mastery of layer 3 routing that includes BGP, EIGRP, and OSPF protocols.
  • In-depth knowledge of IPv4
  • In-depth knowledge carrier network services and architecture design.
  • In-depth knowledge of WAN acceleration devices that optimize end user and data center to data center application flows.
  • Has a broad understanding of IT infrastructure platforms (cross work stream, e.g. Compute, Storage, LAN, VoIP, NGFW, VPN, IDS/IPS, Load Balancers, etc…)
  • Work with technical teams in a multi-vendor environment through Major Incident Response situation where required, providing clear communications to Sr. Management
  • Has the ability to effectively communicate complex technical topics to Sr. Management.
  • Able to communicate technical knowledge to non technical business units.
  • Supports infrastructure projects and exercises sound judgment.
  • Works on complex technical problems and provides solutions that are highly innovative, cost effective, and operationally sound.
  • Takes the initiative to act independently to achieve organization objectives, uncover, and resolve issues.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment, promoting teamwork and collaboration.
