Network Engineer 
Quantico, VA

The Network Engineer reports to the MSTP Project Manager and receives work direction derivatives from the Communications and Information Systems Lead. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Provide Network and Unified Communications (UC) / Real Time Services (RTS) engineering and support, including planning, design, documentation, installation, configuration, testing, operation, and maintenance for daily operations and training events.  

  • Collaborate with IT leadership, security personnel, and customer stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery and integrate IT deployment and support. 

  • Create (new) and/or modify (existing) operations, maintenance, installation, and training instructions for communications networks. 

  • Plan, configure, test, deploy, troubleshoot and maintain LAN/WAN infrastructure. 

  • Maintain boundary defense, monitoring, and firewalls across security and network enclaves. 

  • Implement QoS statements to improve performance of telephony and computer networks. 

  • Provide COMSEC support by receiving, couriering, storing, installing, operating, and protecting classified KEYMAT. 

  • Install, and configure VoIP, VTC, unclassified and classified web conferencing, XMPP/IRC servers and client application software. 

  • Integrate voice, video, audio-visual, Web and other services to support multi-site collaboration. 

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and team members, including status reports, issues, key activities and changes to projects.  

  • Develop dashboards, alerts, reports, and roadmaps to represent current and upcoming IT requirements and architecture. 

  • Track and report response times, availability, and the uptime of routers, switches, and other Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) enabled devices. 

  • Maintain government provided network monitoring such as Orion Networking Performance Monitoring software (Solar Winds) to resolve performance issues before outages occur, and monitor logs for firewalls and intrusion detection systems. 

  • Conduct pre‐event testing to identify and resolve network failures and optimize performance. 

  • Develop and maintain cross‐boundary network solutions (e.g., firewalls, ACLs, etc.) to enable secure interconnections across networks of varying MAC levels and classifications. 

  • Develop conceptual solution architecture using Microsoft technologies and select third party products to produce an end-to-end solution that is stable, resilient and performant. 

  • Support efforts across subject matter experts to ensure overall integrity and consistency. 

EDUCATION  

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification  

  • Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II: Baseline Certification ‐ IAW DoD 8140.01 required (CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, SSCP); a minimum of one valid Computing Environment (CE)/Operating System (OS) Certificate (i.e. MS Windows Server 2012 R2 Cert, MS Windows 10 cert, a VMware 6.0 Cert); and at least 3 years in IA technology or a related area. 

  • Must possess and maintain training and certifications sufficient to be granted privileged access to Marine Corps information technology (IT) and information systems (IS) 

EXPERIENCE 

  • Recent hands-on experience within Marine Corps or DoD agencies in network engineering, architecture design, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise datacenters, systems, sites and services, and infrastructure projects with experience with at least two of the following: EIGRP, MPLS, BGP, VOIP, QoS, and OSPF. 

  • Enterprise architecture design and implementation experience in Cisco network infrastructure, CUCM, IM&P, storage area network systems, and Solar Winds.  

  • Knowledge and understanding of TCP/IP network technologies; DNS, DHCP, TFTP, NAT, and SSL. 

  • Working technical knowledge of network switching protocols (STP, CDP, and LLDP); TCP/IP networks and standards (IEEE 802.1).  

  • Familiar with network topologies such as MPLS, Frame Relay, ATM, ISDN, etc.  

  • Solid understanding of OSI or TCP/IP model. 

  • Experience in cabling and wiring systems, fiber infrastructure; configuring and troubleshooting Business Edition Servers, Meeting Servers, Cisco IPsec (AES 256), ASA Firewalls, Firepower Management Servers, IPS, route-maps, and ACLs. 

  • Working knowledge of DoD STIGs, and IA Vulnerability Management (IAVM). 

  • Experience in performing infrastructure enhancement planning and execution. 

  • MEF level operational military experience in communications with prior experience at the field grade level (0602, 0603, 0699) or equivalent.

WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Required to sit for extended periods of time and maintain focus 

  • Daily travel in local area during work day (including use of personal vehicle) 

  • Be able to work an unstable schedule, to include holidays and weekends. 

SPECIAL POSITION NOTATIONS 

  • CONUS and OCONUS travel may be required for up to three weeks at a time (or longer). 

  • Qualification as an authorized company driver is required. All authorized company drivers must have a valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to the company’s auto insurance provider. 

SECURITY CLEARANCE  

  • A Secret security clearance is required for this position. 

  • This position also requires a completed Personnel Security Investigation that will qualify the incumbent to be eligible for access to at least the TS-SCI level, and the individual must be read-in for NATO level access.
