ASRC Federal Technology Solutions, LLC is seeking a Network Engineer, Intermediate to support a newly awarded contract in Washington, DC.

Work location: Onsite (Monday - Friday). This position requires occasional after-hours, weekend, and shiftwork to perform routine maintenance and upgrades during maintenance windows in support of the DHS OIG mission. All after-hours work can be WFH (work from home). Must be willing and flexible to perform occasional travel to the customer's Data Center to perform maintenance and administration. Most travel is planned but some may be emergency. Travel is estimated to be 5%.

Clearance: Public Trust. US Citizenship is required to successfully complete a DHS background investigation.

Summary: The Intermediate Network Engineer will engage in planning and coordinating the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Cisco switch and router systems, and Meraki product and dashboard experience to support the OIG enterprise infrastructure. This role entails scheduling the implementation of new hardware and Cisco Systems, while managing VLANs, IP pools, and ACLs. The engineer will ensure optimal system performance, connectivity, availability, and serviceability. Additionally, responsibilities include evaluation of current systems, documenting standard operating procedures, resolving issues related to router and switch interoperability, and ensuring the systems' availability, integrity, and functionality. The position requires working with the Senior Network Engineer as well as independent work and adaptability to new hardware and Cisco software releases. Highly desirable to be familiar with government agency based ITIL Change Management (CM) and Change Control Board (CCB) best practices and procedures.

Position Responsibilities:

Network Infrastructure Management & Deployment

  • Managing Scalable Networks: Manage and maintain secure network architectures (LAN/WAN/Data Center) using Cisco hardware.
  • Implementing Cisco Solutions: Installing, configuring, and upgrading Cisco routers, switches, and edge applications to support mission and business needs.
  • Data Center Connectivity: Configuring Cisco switches and maintaining high-availability data center fabrics.
  • Wireless: Configuring enterprise-grade wireless network environments using Cisco Access Points.
  • Request Fulfillment: Receive, analyze, and work to resolution requests for network connectivity.
  • Traffic Management (Meraki): Configured traffic shaping rules to restrict guest network bandwidth, setting per-client and per-SSID limits to ensure high-priority corporate traffic remains unaffected.
  • System Maintenance (Meraki): Manage and maintain Meraki infrastructure, including firmware updates, AP placement, and VLAN tagging for guest traffic across multiple locations.

Configuration & Maintenance

  • Routing & Switching: Configuring complex routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, etc.) and switching technologies (VLANs, STP, etc.).
  • IOS Management: Maintaining, upgrading, and testing Cisco IOS software on devices.
  • Network Segmentation: Utilizing Access Control Lists (ACLs) and Private VLANs to enforce "Zero Trust" principles and prevent unauthorized lateral movement.
  • Authentication & Access Control (Meraki): Configured captive portals, including customized splash pages, click-through registration, and "Guest Ambassador" accounts, allowing staff to securely manage visitor access on-the-fly.
  • Onboarding (Meraki): Streamlined the guest onboarding process to enhance user experience while maintaining security.
  • Meraki Dashboard Administration: Proficient in navigating the Meraki dashboard to monitor "Wireless Health" and client activity.

Troubleshooting & Performance Optimization

  • Operational Support: Providing Tier II troubleshooting for LAN/WAN connectivity issues. Collecting detailed information as needed to escalate to Tier III/Senior Network Engineer as needed.
  • Performance Monitoring: perform monitoring of network traffic, bottlenecks, and latency using existing and approved tools such as SolarWinds, Wireshark, and Cisco toolsets.
  • Incident Resolution: Diagnosing networking Layer problems under high pressure including making recommendations for resolution to minimizing downtime.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Investigating and resolving root causes of network incidents and creating mitigation plans.
  • Troubleshooting & Monitoring (Meraki): Proactively monitored network health utilizing Meraki Dashboard, using tools like packet captures, RF spectrum analysis, and DHCP logs to troubleshoot client connection issues.

Security & Compliance

  • Security Implementation: Implementing Cisco ASA, Firepower, or Meraki firewalls to safeguard the network.
  • Access Control: Managing access control lists (ACLs) and implementing NAC (Network Access Control) using Cisco ISE.
  • VPN Configuration: Configuring secure site-to-site and remote access VPN tunnels.
  • Compliance Audits: Conducting regular audits to confirm network security compliance.

Documentation & Collaboration

  • Maintaining Documentation: Creating detailed network diagrams (Visio), topology maps, and configuration records.
  • Change Management: Ensuring all changes follow company policies and are documented to avoid unexpected outages.
  • Vendor Coordination: Working with vendors and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to support hardware RMA and link connectivity.
  • Mentorship: Providing mentorship to junior technicians and network administrators

Qualifications:

  • Preference of Bachelor's degree, or higher, in an IT-related field.
  • US Citizenship is required to successfully complete a government issued background investigation and Public Trust issuance.
