Function

This position is supported through grant funding. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of funds.

This class develops and coordinates service plans to connect individuals and their associates to resources and services designed to mitigate the disproportionate rates of violence occurring amongst a limited few in pockets of our community, provide youth workforce development and increase public awareness. The Neighborhood Service Navigators purposed to educate and engage communities on social determinants of health relating to violence and prevention will operate under supervision. Performs duties under the general supervision of the Youth Violence Prevention Program Supervisor.

Minimum Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Sociology, Human Services, Psychology or a closely related field of study.

A minimum of three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience in case management, practices and programs for youth, family engagement, child development or family-focused social work or closely related experience while supervising staff.

Knowledge of best practices related to positive youth development, strength-based approaches, and restorative justice practices.

A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position. Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.

May be required to possess a driver's license and satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria. This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy.

Proven ability to develop relationships with diverse group of stakeholders and participate in street outreach and case management.

Additional Requirements

Requires considerable contact with the general public, City departments, and a variety of other local, state, and national educational and cultural agencies as well as community outreach to share information about services and programs as well as establish community partners. Requires effective communication with internal and external clients.

Incumbent must be able to work independently with little direct supervision and to exercise sound judgment in stressful situations. Able to identify pressing needs and prioritize those as needed, without losing track of other tasks and responsibilities; Ability to effectively manage time and resources.

Requires considerable travel within the City of Hampton. The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during city emergency situations, or at the direction of the City Manager or designee which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
