National Traveling Service Technician, PLCs & Drive Systems

Be the go‑to expert who keeps industrial assets running. This national, travel‑heavy role supports customers anywhere in the Continental U.S., delivering high‑level maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability improvements on complex electro‑mechanical equipment and control systems.

What you'll do

• Perform advanced corrective and preventive maintenance: identify root causes, disassemble, inspect, adjust, repair/replace, and test mechanical and electrical systems; recondition and repair machine tools.
• Evaluate and source parts and materials; recommend alternatives for cost and reliability gains.
• Independently execute maintenance aligned to industry standards and best practices.
• Partner with customer teams to optimize reliability programs and PM procedures.
• Operate machining equipment (lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools) and perform welding as needed.
• Comply with customer contractor codes of conduct, housekeeping, and safety requirements.
• Record work in service reports and management systems; capture observations and equipment performance data with clear written rationale.
• Guide and support junior technicians; provide leadership within project teams.
• Troubleshoot complex control systems, resolving software, hardware, and configuration issues.
• Use advanced maintenance technologies to collect performance data, identify trends, and advise on improvements.
• Engage in on‑the‑job training and self‑study to advance your technical career.
• Follow all safety policies and practices; maintain situational awareness and proactively flag unsafe conditions and behaviors.

Minimum qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Associate degree (technical) plus 10+ years of relevant industry experience, or 12+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Comprehensive knowledge of electrical, mechanical, fluid power, and control systems; proven ability to analyze issues, develop solutions, and carry out repairs.
• Competence with standard hand tools and specialized tools for the trade.
• Extensive travel (local and national). Residence may be anywhere within the Continental U.S.

Preferred experience

• Condition‑based maintenance, precision mechanical alignment, and maintenance of process equipment.
• PLC systems, field device troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical drive and motor systems.

Working conditions & physical requirements

• Regular: standing, walking, hands/fingers use, reaching, climbing (ladders/lifts), balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling in confined spaces, talking/hearing.
• Occasional: sitting; lifting/moving over 50 lbs; outdoor weather exposure; risk of electrical shock.
• Vision: close and color vision frequently required.
• Environment: loud factory settings; possible exposure to hazardous materials and greasy/slippery floors.
