Job Summary: The National Account Manager is responsible for managing, maintaining, and growing the strategic business relationship between Makita and HD Supply. Serving as the primary corporate contact for the HD Supply account, this role develops account strategies, identifies growth opportunities, and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to drive sales, profitability, and long-term partnership success. This will be done while promoting Makita's "Best-In-Class Engineering & Innovation" brand position and the extensive Makita product line.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all corporate-level interactions with the assigned national accounts(s).
  • Develop and execute strategic account plans designed to increase sales, market share, and profitability.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal/external teams including category management, marketing, merchandising, sourcing, supply chain, compliance, and executive leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to expand product assortment, increase distribution, and support new business initiatives.
  • Lead annual business planning, sales forecasting, and account reviews with national account stakeholders.
  • Negotiate pricing, promotional programs, contracts, and business terms while protecting company profitability objectives.
  • Coordinate with internal sales, operations, supply chain, customer service, marketing, and finance teams to ensure successful execution of customer programs.
  • Monitor sales performance, inventory levels, fill rates, and key account metrics to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Resolve account issues and escalate concerns as needed to maintain customer satisfaction and service excellence.
  • Analyze market trends, competitive activity, and customers' needs to develop recommendations that strengthen the partnership and drive growth.
  • Prepare and deliver business presentations, sales reports, and strategic recommendations to both internal/external leadership and decision-makers.
  • Travel to conduct company business, including periodic travel for customer visits, corporate meetings, training events, and industry trade shows.
  • Provide sales and customer support related to pricing, credit terms, MAP policy compliance, order management, and other sales support functions.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate business reports, including sales activity reports, account updates, weekly call reports, monthly reports, expense reports, mileage logs, and other required documentation.
  • Maintain accountability for company assets and records, including vehicles, demonstration tools, product samples, marketing materials, and related equipment.
  • Perform all company functions per federal, state, and municipal laws and per company policies.

Applicant Qualities Desired:

  • Ability to identify opportunities for assortment expansion, category growth, and increased market penetration.
  • Capable of coordinating cross-functional teams to execute customer initiatives.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems, sales analytics, forecasting tools, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong self-motivator, with the ability to work well independently and with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to build alignment among sales, operations, marketing, customer service, and finance teams.

Travel: The role requires regular travel aligned to the needs of the account(s), including local and regional driving. Overnight travel is expected periodically, depending on account size and geographic coverage. Occasional national air travel is required for executive meetings, planning sessions, and company events.

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and products weighing up to approximately 50-75 pounds, including items such as lawn mowers, breaker hammers, and display materials
  • Ability to safely operate and demonstrate power tools, including saws, drills, breaker hammers, and other handheld equipment
  • Ability to transport tools, displays, and merchandising materials into and out of vehicles, customer facilities, and jobsite environments
  • Ability to walk extended distances through large industrial and construction jobsites while carrying tools or equipment
  • Ability to navigate stairs, ramps, elevators, ladders, and uneven or outdoor terrain commonly found on jobsites
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and use repetitive hand and arm motions during demonstrations, setup, and merchandising activities
  • Ability to drive for extended periods of time, including local and regional travel
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to noise, dust, temperature variations, and typical jobsite conditions
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, and protective footwear

Education, Skills, and Experience Needed:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a 4-year college or university; or 4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4+ years of National Account Management
  • Background in industrial MRO sales preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
