The Music Director plays a key role in shaping the worship experience at The Crossing, helping bring each weekend and ministry gathering to life through preparation, musical excellence, and intentional execution. This role leads the musical environment, translating vision into cohesive, engaging, and spiritually meaningful worship sets. Working under the leadership of the Lead Worship Arts Pastor, the Music Director owns the preparation, rehearsal, and execution of the musical elements of each service, ensuring alignment with the overall creative and pastoral direction. This role brings consistency, clarity, and excellence to the worship experience across environments.
The Music Director also invests in and develops musicians and volunteers, helping build a healthy worship culture marked by excellence, humility, and servant leadership. This includes identifying and growing leaders and strengthening the overall team. This role is both creative and operational, ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of music, systems, and ministry. In addition to weekend services, the Music Director supports key environments such as Celebrate Recovery and Young Adults.
As part of The Crossing’s ministry, this role helps lead others in worship and create spaces where people can connect with Jesus. It requires spiritual maturity, alignment with the church’s beliefs, and a commitment to modeling biblical values through both leadership and creative expression. This position is perfect for an outgoing individual whom God has gifted with a heart for helping people connect with Jesus, strong leadership skills, and a desire to help others grow. What you’ll be doing
Worship Arts Leadership
- Provide musical leadership for weekend worship services, creating engaging and meaningful environments through strong musicianship, thoughtful arrangements, and effective use of tracks and programming
- Build and maintain Ableton sessions for upcoming worship plans, ensuring all elements are prepared and aligned in advance
- Program keyboard patches and/or musical elements to support each worship environment
- Serve as an instrumentalist and, when needed, a music director—guiding musicians through arrangements, transitions, and dynamics
- Lead and facilitate rehearsals with clarity and preparation, helping teams feel confident, unified, and ready to lead
- Partner closely with Worship Staff and leaders to ensure music direction aligns with the overall pastoral and spiritual direction of each service
- Support worship for special events and services as needed
- Help maintain and elevate the musical standard and sound across The Crossing’s worship environments
- Note: Strong vocal ability and the capacity to lead worship are highly valued but not required for this role
Music Development and Leadership
- Invest in the growth and development of musicians through coaching, encouragement, and feedback
- Identify and develop emerging leaders, creating pathways for increased responsibility and leadership
- Help build and refine systems that support a healthy worship culture marked by excellence, humility, preparation, and servant leadership
- Contribute to a sustainable leadership pipeline by mentoring musicians toward future band leadership or music direction roles
Celebrate Recovery
- Partner with the Lead Worship Arts Pastor to plan and prepare worship environments for Celebrate Recovery
- Serve as a worship leader or band leader for CR as scheduled
- Strengthen the worship culture within CR through musical leadership and team development
Team Collaboration
- Collaborate cross-functionally with ministry departments to support weekend programming and worship environments
- Actively participate in team meetings and contribute to overall ministry alignment
General
- Support basic administrative and operational needs as required (e.g., purchasing, communication, workflow organization across systems)
- Respond to all general ministry questions, both internally and externally, via phone and email
- Other related duties as needed
What you’ll bring to the team
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: High School Diploma
- Minimum Experience: Three years experience with similar leadership influence, people development, technical duties and tasks
- Demonstrates strong technology experience (Ableton, Planning Center, ProPresenter, Multitracks, CCLI, Gmail, Google Docs, Word, Excel, Rock, etc.)
- Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
- Preferred Experience: Five years experience with similar leadership influence, people development, technical duties and tasks in an equivalent church setting or non-profit organization
- Proof of legal authorization to work in the United States
