Multi‑Axis CNC Setup and Troubleshooting Specialist
Location: Rancho Cordova, CA
Pay: $24.00 – $31.00 per hour
Schedule: Full-Time
Join an established precision manufacturer building high‑quality, innovative components for critical medical technologies. You’ll be the expert who turns solid process plans into flawlessly machined parts—setting up, running, and dialing in CNC equipment for repeatable excellence.
A day in the life
You begin by preparing a 2‑ or 3‑axis setup on a vertical mill, confirming work offsets and tooling. As the first part runs, you tweak feeds and speeds and make a basic G‑code edit to refine a surface finish. A turning center comes next; you design a quick set of soft jaws, verify dimensions with micrometers and height gauges, and log results. When a tolerance drifts, you troubleshoot root cause—tool wear, workholding, or program detail—apply the fix, then update documentation. Throughout the day, you answer questions from junior machinists, passing along best practices and ensuring production stays on track.
What you will do
- Set up and operate 2‑ and 3‑axis CNC machines across vertical, horizontal, and turning centers.
- Adjust feeds/speeds and perform basic G‑code edits to stabilize quality and cycle time.
- Troubleshoot dimensional and surface‑finish issues; implement effective corrections.
- Recommend process improvements and programming optimizations for throughput and consistency.
- Design and build simple fixtures and workholding (soft jaws, plates, etc.).
- Monitor tool wear; recommend tooling changes and improvements.
- Inspect parts with precision instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges), excluding complex 3D surface checks.
- Coach and support less experienced machinists on setups, measurement, and safety.
- Maintain accurate job status notes, inspection results, and shop documentation.
What you bring
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5+ years of machining experience, including 4+ years on CNC equipment.
- Hands‑on experience with CNC controls such as Fanuc, Mazak, or Haas.
- Capability to set up, run, and inspect multi‑axis jobs.
- Proficiency with inspection tools: calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and related metrology.
- Strong command of GD&T and blueprint reading; able to follow technical instructions in English.
Physical requirements
Light to medium work; able to lift and move up to 50 lbs occasionally.
