Job Summary:

Operates magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment to produce cross-sectional images of patient body for diagnostic purposes.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs MRI examinations according to department policy and protocols, including preparing and positioning patients for MRI procedures of various body parts.
  • Positions equipment and patients to provide the best demonstration of the body part under study.
  • Performs Quality Control tests on department equipment and reports any discrepancies to the appropriate personnel.
  • Collects and evaluates relevant examination information from scheduling, patients, and referring physicians, including screening information.
  • Maintains departmental records and patient information according to policy.
  • Responds to patient physical and psychological needs and keeps patients informed.
  • Explains all procedures clearly and concisely to avoid unnecessary anxiety.
  • Listens to and answers patient questions with patience and courtesy.
  • Performs safety procedures for outpatients, inpatients, patient families, and hospital staff, screening for metal objects or implants.
  • Ensures no unauthorized personnel enter the scan room with metal objects or contraindicated implants.
  • Evaluates scanning procedure results for quality and completeness, manipulating images for physician review.
  • Sends images to the PACS system, evaluates exams for completeness, and verifies exams in a timely manner.
  • Develops a working knowledge of all PACS capabilities.
  • Maintains accurate documentation and charging of examinations and supplies.
  • Seeks advice from appropriate resources when unsure of protocol or policy.
  • Exercises independent judgment in planning sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field.
  • Works directly with patients, internal customers, external customers, and other healthcare professionals and staff.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Zero (0) to six (6) months of related experience.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner.

Required Education:

  • Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
  • OR
  • Completion of an MRI accredited program.

Required Certification & Licensure:

  • Registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT-R).
  • OR
  • American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT).
  • BLS Certification.

Shift: MRI experience (2 years preferred)
