Job Title: MRI Technologist

Location: New York, NY

Schedule: Full-Time

Compensation: $87/hour

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and patient-focused MRI Technologist to join a dynamic Diagnostic Imaging team. The MRI Technologist will be responsible for performing high-quality magnetic resonance imaging procedures while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and adherence to established imaging protocols. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in MRI imaging, excellent patient care skills, and a commitment to delivering accurate diagnostic results in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

MRI Imaging Procedures

  • Perform MRI examinations in accordance with physician orders, imaging protocols, and patient-specific requirements.
  • Properly position patients and MRI coils to obtain optimal diagnostic images.
  • Apply technical expertise and clinical judgment to ensure image quality meets diagnostic standards.
  • Evaluate completed images for quality and accuracy and repeat studies when necessary.
  • Ensure images are accurately labeled and transmitted to PACS in a timely manner.
  • Assist with advanced MRI procedures and specialized imaging studies as needed.

Patient Care & Education

  • Explain MRI procedures and examination expectations to patients.
  • Complete MRI safety screenings and review patient questionnaires prior to imaging.
  • Assess patients for MRI contraindications and safety risks.
  • Monitor patient comfort and well-being throughout examinations.
  • Provide support and reassurance to patients experiencing anxiety or discomfort.
  • Maintain a patient-centered approach to care and service excellence.

Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all MRI safety standards and departmental policies.
  • Ensure MRI scan areas remain free from unauthorized ferromagnetic materials.
  • Follow infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory, organizational, and departmental requirements.
  • Maintain active licensure and professional certifications.

Documentation & Information Management

  • Accurately document patient information and examination details in radiology systems.
  • Complete required imaging documentation and records promptly.
  • Maintain patient files, scan required documentation, and ensure record accuracy.
  • Schedule imaging examinations when necessary.
  • Ensure accurate patient tracking and workflow management.

Equipment & Department Operations

  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of MRI suites.
  • Monitor equipment functionality and report maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Maintain adequate imaging supplies and accessories.
  • Assist physicians and clinical staff during MRI-related procedures when required.
  • Support departmental operations and perform administrative duties as needed.

Professional Development

  • Participate in continuing education and professional development activities.
  • Stay current with advancements in MRI technology, imaging protocols, and patient safety standards.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of a JRCERT-approved School of Radiologic Technology.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Current New York State Licensed Radiologic Technologist (L.R.T.) required.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification required.

Experience

  • Minimum two (2) years of MRI experience preferred.
  • Experience in hospital, outpatient imaging, or diagnostic imaging settings preferred.
  • Experience with advanced MRI procedures and specialized imaging studies preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of:
    • MRI Physics
    • Cross-Sectional Anatomy
    • Human Physiology
    • Radiologic Sciences
  • Proficiency with PACS and Radiology Information Systems (RIS) preferred.
  • Excellent technical and analytical skills.
  • Strong patient care and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to image quality and patient safety.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, technologists, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
