MRI Technologist

Department: MRI Services
Reports To: MRI Supervisor

Position Summary

The MRI Technologist is responsible for providing high-quality diagnostic imaging services while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction throughout the MRI process. This role collaborates closely with physicians, radiologists, and clinical staff to perform MRI procedures accurately and efficiently in accordance with established protocols and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Preparation & Safety

  • Prepare patients for MRI procedures by explaining the examination process and addressing questions or concerns.
  • Escort patients to changing areas and provide appropriate attire as needed.
  • Verify removal of all metallic objects and conduct comprehensive MRI safety screenings.
  • Assess patients for contraindications including implanted medical devices, metal fragments, pacemakers, stents, cochlear implants, and other MRI safety concerns.
  • Ensure patient comfort throughout the procedure, including providing blankets, headphones, ear protection, and communication devices.

MRI Procedures

  • Set up MRI equipment and select appropriate coils based on the body part being examined.
  • Position patients correctly to obtain optimal diagnostic images.
  • Perform MRI examinations according to established protocols and physician orders.
  • Monitor patients during procedures and respond promptly to any discomfort, anxiety, or medical concerns.
  • Maintain communication with radiologists regarding protocol questions, imaging concerns, or unexpected findings.
  • Ensure MRI safety standards are maintained at all times during scanning procedures.

Clinical Support

  • Assist radiologists with specialized procedures, including arthrograms, as required.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations and follow established protocols.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation related to MRI procedures.

Inventory & Equipment Management

  • Maintain adequate inventory levels of MRI supplies and procedural materials.
  • Monitor and restock patient care items, medications, tubing, trays, and supplies utilized during MRI procedures and arthrograms.
  • Maintain records of invoices, receipts, and departmental supplies as assigned.
  • Ensure MRI equipment and work areas remain clean, organized, and operational.

Administrative & Organizational Responsibilities

  • Prioritize workload effectively to ensure timely completion of scheduled examinations.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and the ability to work independently.
  • Support departmental goals through effective communication and teamwork.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and process enhancements.

Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Ability to maintain a high level of concentration and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Capable of lifting, positioning, and handling MRI coils and related equipment.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and assist patients throughout the workday.
  • Requires manual dexterity, visual acuity, and effective verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to interruptions, changing priorities, and urgent situations.
