Job Summary and Qualifications

The Monitor Technician PRN interprets cardiac rhythms and arrhythmias, maintains telemetry supplies and maintains patient records according to hospital policy.

  • You will perform continuous observation of cardiac telemetry monitors according to hospital policies and procedures. Interprets, documents, and reports data from telemetry monitor systems.
  • Utilize proper leads and lead placement unless otherwise indicated. Assist in optimal lead placement when designated leads are not the most appropriate lead.
  • You will prepare, run, document, and analyze rhythm strips on all patients according to unit standards.
  • Notify RN/Charge RN/LPN of any changes in patient rhythm, rate, pulse oximetry, signal interference or loss, lead connection issues, and need for assessment of patient.
  • Maintain an hourly log of each patient’s cardiac rate and rhythm.
  • Maintain unit logs and other documentation systems as directed.
  • Prepare shift report for each nursing area following department procedure, including baseline rhythm and any changes. Reviews other technician’s reports and coaches for compliance or changes


What Qualifications you will need:

  • Previous experience as CMT/Cardiac Tech or Monitor Technician preferred
  • Completion of a 12 lead EKG course is preferred
