Responsibilities

The Mohs Technician is primarily responsible for the following job duties:

  • Prepare tissue specimens by processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining for examination by the Mohs surgeon.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, including microtomes and cryostats.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and labeling of specimens and slides.
  • Perform routine and specialized histological and immunohistochemical staining techniques.
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures and protocols.
  • Collaborate closely with the Mohs surgeon and clinical staff to ensure timely processing and examination of specimens.
  • Monitor and order laboratory supplies to ensure efficient operation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to tissue processing and staining.
  • Ensure quality control and assurance in all histological preparations.

Schedule

FTE 1.0

Hours: 8:00am-5:00pm

Days: Monday-Friday

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years of previous dermatology, histology, or laboratory experience
  • One year of experience as a Mohs technician or a licensed histologist, or completion of the University of Florida Department of Dermatology Histotechnology Training Program: Mohs Surgery Frozen Section Processing 6-month program.

Motor Vehicle Operator Designation: Employees in this position: Will operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose as a 'non-frequent driver'
