JOB SUMMARY
Compliments and supports therapists and nurses in the mobility of patients according to established standards of care. Provides support to the unit in the maintenance and safety of supplies, equipment, gait belts, walkers, and other assistive devices, and the environment, ensuring fall prevention interventions are in place.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assists in providing mobility, ambulation, transfers, and assist X2 for the patients as scheduled by charge nurse on each floor and in collaboration with the nurse manager or their delegate.
• Provides data collected on patient mobilization to the appropriate nurse.
• Recognizes, responds, and reports changes in the patients condition.
• Recognizes intervenes and reports situations which impede patient safety.
• Demonstrates awareness of the John Hopkins goal plan for mobilization of the individual patient.
• Provides feedback on the patients achievement of John Hopkins goal plan to the nurse and therapist.
• Demonstrates competency in proper patient handling in the mobility and tasks and aspects of patient care assigned.
• Safeguards the privacy and dignity of patients.
• Gives accurate and complete reports to the nurse and therapist as appropriate.
• Maintains a mobility log for all patients, which is written in daily.
• Shares information received from the patient/family with the nurse and therapist.
• Maintains confidentiality on all subject matter relating to patients.
• Maintains open and effective communication with patients, families, and health team members.
• Communicates to the appropriate staff member patient needs beyond mobilization assignment.
UNIT SUPPORT
• Maintain supplies and equipment according to unit standards, i.e., gait belts, walkers, canes, crutches, tab safety alarms, appropriate patient seating, bed alarms, etc.
• Provides input about inventory of supplies, equipment, and environmental needs of the unit.
• Demonstrates compliance with proper hand hygiene and personal protective equipment.
• Contributes to the cleanliness and order of the patient room, unit, and equipment.
• Demonstrates NCH standards of care.
• Demonstrates responsibility to patients, co-workers, and the institution.
• Complies with dress code standards and wearing of proper identification.
EDUCATION, DEVELOPMENT, AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum of High School or GED.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a related field preferred.
• Basic Life Support BLS certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
• Verbal, writing, reading, and patient relation skills.
• Intermediate computer knowledge, using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
