Mobile Service Technician – Environmental Equipment

Position Summary

Our client is seeking an experienced Mobile Service Technician to join their growing service team. This position services customers throughout the Lansing to Ann Arbor, Michigan territory, performing on-site diagnostics, repairs, preventative maintenance, and emergency service on environmental equipment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled technician who enjoys working independently, solving complex mechanical and hydraulic issues, and providing outstanding customer service in the field. The ideal candidate has a strong background in hydraulic systems, electrical diagnostics, and heavy equipment or vocational truck repair.

Responsibilities

  • Travel throughout the Lansing to Ann Arbor service territory to diagnose, repair, and maintain environmental equipment at customer locations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Diagnose and repair 12-volt electrical systems, wiring, switches, sensors, and control circuits.
  • Service electric-over-hydraulic and air-over-hydraulic systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and emergency field repairs.
  • Read and interpret wiring schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and service manuals.
  • Troubleshoot equipment efficiently to minimize customer downtime.
  • Complete accurate service reports and communicate repair recommendations with customers and the service team.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked service vehicle.
  • Deliver professional customer service while representing the company in the field.
  • Work safely and independently while managing daily service schedules.

Qualifications

  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing 12-volt electrical systems.
  • Strong hydraulic troubleshooting skills, including electric-over-hydraulic and air-over-hydraulic systems.
  • Solid understanding of electrical theory.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring schematics and hydraulic diagrams.
  • Basic knowledge of pneumatic systems.
  • High mechanical aptitude with strong diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on environmental equipment, refuse equipment, compactors, balers, vocational trucks, or heavy equipment.
  • Fabrication and welding experience (MIG, stick, or both).
  • Experience working on Class 7 and Class 8 truck chassis.
  • Hydraulic cylinder repair and hose fabrication experience.
  • Diesel engine diagnostics and repair experience.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • CDL Class B (or higher) required within 60 days of employment.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions.
  • Willingness to travel daily throughout the assigned service territory.
