OUR MISSION
Our mission is to ensure the physical, operational and financial integrity of the regional flood risk management system, in southeastern Louisiana as a defense against floods and storm surge from hurricanes. We accomplish this mission by working with local, regional, state and federal partners to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain projects that will reduce the probability and risk of flooding for the residents and businesses within our jurisdiction.
OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
Responsible for operating a tractor and related equipment to cut and maintain grass along the levees and flood protection structures on the East Bank of the Mississippi River, which consists of Orleans, St. Bernard, and Jefferson Parishes. This ensures safe and effective vegetation control to support flood risk management, visibility, and accessibility of levee systems.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Operates one or more of the following types of equipment as a primary, regular and recurring function of the job: field tractors with power ratings up to and including 125hp; tractors which may be equipped with attachments such as bush-hogs, belly attachment, blades, loaders, hoes, flail mowers, brooms and gang mower up to 21 feet across, etc.; forklifts with lifting capacity over 10,000 lbs. or lift height over 12 feet; if the incumbent has a current Class A CDL license, may be required to operate bobtail and/or tandem dump trucks with rating capacity of 12 yards or less.
Required to operate any equipment enumerated for the Mobile Equipment Operator 1, Mobile Equipment Operator Light and/or Laborer when necessary to accomplish work objectives.
Remove trash and debris from the SLFPAE's Right-of-Way.
Cut and trim grass within the SLFPA-E's Right-of-Way.
Works with weed eaters, chainsaws, pole saws, and various other hand tools to remove weeds, grass, brush and trees from levees and the properties owned and maintained by the SLFPA-E.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: This appointment type can be filled as Probational, Promotional, Lateral Transfer, Detail to Special Duty or Job Appointment.
Career Progression: This position does participate in a Career Progression Group, it may be filled as a Mobile Equipment Operator 1 or 2.
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

Note: Incumbent is required to perform other duties as necessary, including but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities by being on 24-hour call. Incumbent is required to report to work and remain there in case of emergency (hurricanes, storms, or other conditions, which could lead to flooding) until such emergency has subsided and employees are released through orders of the Regional Director. Place and remove stop logs during high water emergencies. Make, place and remove sandbags whenever needed. Place and remove barricades and traffic cones.
