Mobile Crane Systems Diagnostic Technician

Step into our Baltimore, Maryland branch and start your day collaborating with the Service Manager who sets priorities and aligns resources. From there, you’ll roll up your sleeves to inspect, diagnose, and restore mobile hydraulic and lattice boom cranes to peak performance—keeping our customers moving.

A day in the life

  • Begin with a thorough operational check of assigned cranes to pinpoint defects.
  • Trace issues across hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems—then troubleshoot and repair to OEM specs.
  • Use micrometers and gauges to evaluate wear on critical components.
  • Interpret parts manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings to plan the job.
  • Test repaired or modified equipment to verify performance and compliance.
  • Prepare for upcoming work by validating parts availability and drawing accuracy.
  • Complete precise annual inspections.
  • Document work orders, time entries, hours summaries, and expenses accurately.
  • Operate independently without direct supervision while delivering excellent customer service.
  • Handle other duties as assigned.

Where you’ll contribute

  • Base of operations: Baltimore, Maryland branch (reporting to the Service Manager).
  • Core focus: Grove RT & TMS, Grove GMK (European), Manitowoc EPIC and Traditional cranes, and National boom trucks (experience with these preferred).

What you’ll bring

  • High School Diploma or GED and at least two (2) years as a Mechanic/Technician.
  • Ability to read and apply hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Strong communicator with a customer-first mindset.
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record preferred.
  • Basic computer literacy preferred.
  • Personal hand tools up to 1.5 inches are required.

  • Engage in safety training and demonstrate competency.
  • Proactively raise safety concerns or correct issues when appropriate.

Schedule & working conditions

  • Full-time role; typical hours are 7:00 am–6:00 pm. Overtime and weekends may occur based on business needs.
  • Work around extreme temperatures, weather, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, odors, and loud noise.
  • Occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Compensation, incentives & training

  • Hourly range: $29.00–$40.00 for non-bargaining employees, based on skills and qualifications.
  • Bi-weekly pay schedule covering a 14-day period (Monday–Sunday).
  • $4,500 sign-on bonus after 90 days of continuous service.
  • Tool Reimbursement Program up to $1,500 per calendar year.
