Rupert A. Nock Middle School is a grade 6-8 middle school with over 500 students. We are looking for a dynamic, positive person who enjoys working with middle school students, who is comfortable in a fast-paced school environment, and who is interested in collaborating with a team of teachers. Newburyport Public Schools is seeking a qualified and collaborative Special Education Teacher to serve in a middle school therapeutic, sub-separate classroom. This program supports students with emotional disabilities who may present with school refusal, anxiety, and/or a history of trauma. The successful candidate will provide specialized instruction and social-emotional support within a structured, predictable, and inclusive learning environment, with the goal of increasing student access to the curriculum and promoting successful participation in less restrictive settings.

Provide direct, specialized instruction aligned with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and student IEP goals Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with DESE regulations Utilize trauma-informed practices and evidence-based interventions to support student engagement, regulation, and skill development Establish a safe, supportive, and structured classroom environment that promotes positive student behavior Implement positive behavioral supports and respond to student needs using appropriate de-escalation strategies Collaborate with related service providers, general education staff, and families to support student progress Collect and analyze student data to inform instructional decision-making and progress monitoring Participate in Team meetings, professional development, and district initiatives Support students in developing social, emotional, and executive functioning skills
