Job Description: Middle School Special Education Teacher

Position Overview
Job Title: Special Education Teacher
Location: Mayo Middle School (Paris Union School District 95)
Target Start Date: 2026–2027 New School Year (NSY)
Work Hours: Full-Time, 7:15 AM – 3:15 PM
Caseload Size: 28 students

Key Responsibilities & Scope
  • Caseload & Case Management: Act as the primary Case Manager for 28 students with diverse learning profiles, overseeing the execution, compliance, and ongoing data collection of their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Instructional Adaptations: Develop and deliver modified, standards-based instruction in core areas tailored to meet each student's unique physical, emotional, and cognitive learning levels.
  • IEP Meeting Leadership: Author, update, and present measurable IEP goals. Lead annual review meetings and routine check-ins with parents, administrators, and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Behavioral Interventions: Implement positive behavioral intervention plans (BIPs) to foster self-regulation, structured routines, and social-emotional skills appropriate for the middle school setting.
  • Interdisciplinary Teamwork: Collaborate daily with general education teachers, speech-language pathologists, social workers, and school psychologists to implement effective push-in/pull-out service delivery models.


Requirements

Candidate Qualifications & Requirements
  • Experience: 3 to 5 years of active classroom experience as a licensed Special Education Teacher (Middle School environment preferred).
  • Licensure:Must hold (or be eligible for) a valid State of Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Special Education Endorsement (LBS1).
  • District Alternative: The district will consider candidates holding a standard non-education Bachelor's degree if they demonstrate strong foundational traits, and will fund/pay for the necessary coursework to complete the special education certification.
  • Skills: Proficiency with digital IEP management systems, excellent scheduling/time management, and strong crisis-intervention and behavioral de-escalation skills.
