FLSA Status: Exempt
Schedule: 10-Month position; Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.

Job Overview: The Charter School of Educational Excellence seeks a dedicated and knowledgeable Special Education Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality, differentiated instruction, develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and collaborate with staff and families to ensure student success in a rigorous academic environment.

Qualifications:
Bachelor''s degree required; Master''s degree in Special Education or related field preferred
Valid New York State Students with Disabilities (All Grades) certification required
Minimum of two (2) years of classroom teaching experience preferred
Strong understanding of:
IDEA
NYSED regulations
Part 200 Regulations
IEP development and implementation
Progress monitoring
Experience working with middle school students preferred
Excellent classroom management and organizational skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
Demonstrated proficiency in all subjects, especially English Language Arts and Mathematics
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching practices
Preferred Skills & Attributes
Experience in Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classrooms
Experience providing Resource Room services
Knowledge of MTSS and intervention strategies

Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
Deliver differentiated, standards-based instruction aligned with New York State Learning Standards.
Provide specialized instruction through the Resource Room.
Modify curriculum, assignments, and assessments to meet individual student needs.
Develop and implement instructional strategies that support diverse learning styles.
Utilize evidence-based instructional practices and assistive technology when appropriate.
Plan engaging lessons that promote critical thinking, independence, and student engagement.
Support students in developing executive functioning, organization, and self-advocacy skills.
Maintain a positive, inclusive, and academically rigorous learning environment.
IEP Development & Compliance
Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with IDEA and NYSED regulations.
Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and service delivery.
Prepare quarterly progress reports aligned with IEP goals.
Collect and analyze data to monitor student growth.
Participate in Annual Reviews, Reevaluations, Manifestation Determination Reviews, and Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings.
Ensure compliance with all legal timelines and documentation requirements.
Coordinate with general education teachers and related service providers to ensure consistent implementation of accommodations and modifications.
Maintain confidential student records in accordance with FERPA and district policies.
Collaboration
Collaborate with general education teachers to effectively implement accommodations, modifications, and inclusive instructional practices.
Participate in co-planning and co-teaching to support student success.
Work closely with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, school psychologists, counselors, social workers, and administrators.
Maintain ongoing communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and achievements.
Participate in PPC/MTSS Meetings, grade-level meetings, faculty meetings, and professional development activities.
Support transition planning and student success across grade levels.
Classroom Management & Student Support
Establish a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
Implement positive behavioral interventions and supports.
Utilize proactive classroom management techniques that promote student engagement and independence.
Foster students'' social-emotional development and self-regulation skills.
Support students during classroom transitions, testing, lunch, assemblies, field trips, and other school activities as assigned.
Assessment & Progress Monitoring
Administer formal and informal assessments.
Analyze student performance data to inform instructional planning.
Monitor progress toward IEP goals using measurable data.
Prepare students for New York State assessments and school-based assessments while ensuring appropriate accommodations are provided.
Maintain accurate records of academic performance and intervention outcomes.
Professional Responsibilities
Maintain professional certification and complete all required professional development.
Adhere to all school policies, procedures, and professional expectations.
Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical decision-making.
Attend required faculty meetings, committee meetings, and school events.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or Director of Student Support Services.
Work Environment
This position primarily involves providing instruction in a Resource Room and/or Integrated Co-Teaching setting.
The employee must be able to:
Sit, stand, bend, and walk for extended periods throughout the school day.
Lift and move classroom materials and furniture weighing up to 15 pounds.
Supervise students throughout the building, including hallways, cafeterias, assemblies, arrival, dismissal, and school-sponsored activities.
Maintain a safe, organized, and supportive learning environment while adhering to all school safety procedures.
