The Middle School Head Football Coach is responsible for overseeing the entire football program, focusing on fundamental skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic success. Key duties include running daily practices, managing assistant coaches, enforcing safety protocols, coordinating game schedules, and acting as a positive role model.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

Program Management & Administration

  • Leadership: Oversee the middle school program and supervise assistant coaches.
  • Scheduling: Develop practice schedules, coordinate game logistics, and plan travel in collaboration with the Athletic Director.
  • Equipment & Facilities: Maintain and inventory uniforms and equipment, ensure locker room supervision, and secure facilities after use.

Player Development & Coaching

  • Fundamentals: Teach foundational football rules, techniques (including safe tackling), and game strategies suited for middle schoolers.
  • Skill Assessment: Evaluate players and assign appropriate positions to maximize team capability and individual growth.
  • Conditioning: Develop and implement off-season and pre-season strength and conditioning programs.

Student-Athlete Well-Being & Eligibility

  • Academic Success: Monitor the grades and academic progress of student-athletes.
  • Safety & Health: Enforce safety precautions, oversee injury management, and ensure CPR/First Aid certifications are up to date.
  • Discipline: Enforce the school's athletic code of conduct, emphasizing discipline and personal responsibility.

Communication & Community Relations

  • Parental Engagement: Host pre-season parent meetings to communicate expectations, award policies, and guidelines.
  • Stakeholder Relations: Maintain positive relationships with parents, the high school coaching staff, and the local community.

Qualifications:

  • Previous football coaching or playing experience is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of football rules, techniques, and strategies.
  • Effective communication, leadership, and organization skills.
  • Ability to obtain required coaching certifications (e.g., CPR/First Aid, concussion safety).
