Middle School General Music Teacher & Choral Director

Position Title: Middle School General Music Teacher & Choral Director Location: Holten Richmond Middle School, Danvers, MA Reports To: Middle School Principal/Director of Fine Arts Danvers Public Schools is seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative educator to serve as the Middle School General Music Teacher and Choral Director. This full-time position focuses primarily on teaching engaging, standards-based general music courses for students in grades 6-8 while also directing the middle school choral program. The successful candidate will foster creativity, musical literacy, collaboration, and personal growth through a combination of classroom instruction and ensemble performance, helping students develop lifelong appreciation and participation in music. Job Summary Teach general music classes for students in grades 6-8 using an engaging, developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks. Design learning experiences that develop musical literacy, creativity, performance skills, music technology, listening, composition, and cultural understanding. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs, interests, and abilities of middle school students. Teach and conduct grade-level chorus classes offered within the exploratory rotation. Prepare students for two annual chorus concerts at each grade level through effective rehearsal planning and performance instruction. Collaborate closely with the band director/general music teacher on curriculum development, department initiatives, concert planning, scheduling, and shared resources. Participate in common planning time with the district music faculty to support vertical curriculum alignment and program development. Work collaboratively with the middle school exploratory team to support interdisciplinary learning, scheduling, and student engagement. Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom culture that promotes creativity, collaboration, and student confidence. Integrate Social Emotional Learning practices and relationship-building strategies into music instruction and advisory responsibilities. Communicate regularly with students, families, and staff regarding student progress, performance expectations, and classroom activities. Maintain accurate student records and complete required grading, assessment, and reporting responsibilities. Attend faculty meetings, professional development, and performing arts department meetings to support continuous program improvement.
