Job Title: Middle School Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher - Self-Contained (ELA Focus)
Full- Time, 10 month
Reports to: Director
Position Summary:
The Middle School Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction in a self-contained classroom setting, with a primary focus on English Language Arts (ELA), to students with diverse learning needs. The teacher develops and implements individualized education programs (IEPs), adapts curriculum, and creates a structured, supportive environment that promotes academic, social, and emotional growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs specific student duties related to health, behavior and instructional assistance
- Works with individuals or groups on any task assigned
- Actively participates in the teaching process and modifies instruction/tasks when appropriate.
- Report collected data to appropriate individuals, including administrators, teachers and parents.
- Ensures appropriate interventions are monitored and maintained.
- Participates in staff development and training to gain knowledge of health, behavioral or instructional procedures specific to the assigned students.
- Monitors assigned students during extracurricular events as assigned.
- Participates in school functions.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field
- Valid state teaching license in Special Education (Exceptional Children)
- Experience working with middle school students with disabilities preferred
- Strong knowledge of ELA curriculum, literacy interventions, and differentiated instruction
- Understanding of IEP development, implementation, and compliance requirements
- Ability to manage a self-contained classroom with diverse academic and behavioral needs
- Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills
