JOB SUMMARY

A full-time basic science faculty member is required to serve as an educator specializing in microbiology and/or immunology, facilitating Problem-Based Learning (PBL), advising osteopathic medical students, interviewing applicants, and contributing to the mission of the college through research and service. The successful candidate is knowledgeable and qualified to teach Microbiology and Immunology at a medical college level.

CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following are a list of academic exercises that may be required as a full-time member of the basic science faculty from time to time:

• Serve as content expert in the area of expertise • Serve as Problem-Based Learning (PBL) facilitator • Review current and provide a minimum of two new examination questions for each PBL case mapped to the COMLEX Blueprint • Interview prospective candidates for the College of Medicine • Serve as advisor/mentor to assigned students • Serve as advisor to at least one student club • Serve on committees as assigned

Preparation of Educational Tools

Preparation of demonstrations, lectures, lesson plans, and the selection of suggested and required reading from various sources and coordinating these educational tools with other faculty members.

Preparation of Evaluation Tools

Prepare evaluation tools that will aid in the evaluation of students work product and help to identify students who are discovered to be weak in various areas.

Lectures and Team Meetings

Provide lectures for the MMS Program and attend Team" meetings approved by COM that require advancement of your profession.

Responsibilities and Expectations

Must be able to take direction and receive assignments from the Assistant Dean of Preclinical Education. Must be available for work during the hours assigned for student instruction.

Contributing to Student Success

Contribute and be responsible for overall student success, including but not limited to advising student outcomes, delivery, and test questions. Contribute directly to the Mission of LECOM, embodying the essence of Osteopathic Principles and Practices by assisting with Institutional fundraising and participating in the LECOM Scholarship Auction.

Scholarly Activity and Research

Participate in scholarly activity and research.

Representing LECOM

Commit to being a representative of LECOM by being actively involved in the community, including but not limited to serving on Boards, participating in community fundraisers, and overall outreach, subject to review and approval of the Dean during working hours.

Accepting Other Duties

Accept other duties assigned as needed for the Institutions needs.
