Summary:

The Manager is responsible for the daily leadership and operational management of staff and activities related to Patient Financial Services, including billing, collections, payment review, cash and credit balance resolution, transaction control, and customer service. This role is accountable for ensuring operational performance and financial outcomes are achieved while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, payer guidelines, and hospital policies. The Manager leads teams in meeting key revenue cycle performance goals, including accounts receivable performance, aging reduction, denial management, and cash collections. The Manager functions as both a people leader and operational leader, responsible for developing staff, strengthening accountability, and using data and performance metrics to drive continuous improvement in revenue cycle operations and financial outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of assigned Patient Financial Services teams including billing, collections, payment review, customer service, and credit balance resolution to ensure the timely and accurate collection of the organization's financial resources.
  • Leads operational performance related to accounts receivable management, aging reduction, denial resolution, and cash collections.
  • Uses operational and financial data to identify trends, monitor team performance, and implement strategies to improve productivity, efficiency, and financial outcomes.
  • Oversees processes to ensure accurate billing, timely follow-up, appropriate payment application, and resolution of outstanding accounts in accordance with payer guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborates with internal partners including Managed Care, Compliance, Revenue Integrity, and Information Technology to resolve payer issues, address process gaps, and improve overall revenue cycle performance.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • At least 7 years Progressive revenue cycle experience in a hospital or healthcare setting required
  • At least 3 years Direct leadership experience managing teams or supervisors required
  • Demonstrated experience driving measurable improvements in AR, denials, or cash performance required
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret financial and operational data required
  • Experience managing payer-related issues, escalations, or contract compliance concerns required

EDUCATION

  • Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Healthcare administration, Business, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience) required

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • HFMA certification (CRCR, CHFP) or similar credential referred
  • Lean/Six Sigma or process improvement experience preferred
  • Experience with Epic Hospital/Professional Billing (HB/PB) preferred
