The primary purpose of the Manager of Health Information Management is to provide the necessary management and direction to assure complete and accurate records are maintained for all patients in accordance with federal and state guidelines, as well as established policies and procedures, to assure that a complete medical records program is maintained. The Manager of Health Information Management is responsible to see that this information is available in a fashion conductive to improving the quality of patient care and the medical education process. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education: The Manager of Medical Records must possess certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or a Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) and be registered with the AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association). Must meet continuing education requirements for the position and for the registry with AHIMA.
Experience: Must be familiar with medical terminology and personal computer software. The Manager of Medical Records must be knowledgeable in all aspects of a medical records department. Minimum of two years experience is necessary.
