JOB SUMMARY

JOB SUMMARY:

To mentor youth with the aim of providing support, guidance, positive interaction, exposure to positive activities, opportunities to learn life skills and positive problem-solving skills through a strength-based trauma informed approach.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Provide weekly mentoring sessions implementing social emotional learning, life skills, and peer-to-peer mentoring. Work as a team to help establish a trusting and dependable relationship that can place the youth on a positive path to success. Assist youth to further developing life skills such as self-confidence, self-esteem, academic excellence, and moral values. Enable and encourage positive decision-making and helping youth learn to take responsibility for actions, to see their victims as people, and to see the value in themselves Demonstrate good character, emotional stability, and a responsible adult lifestyle

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Connect youth and families with needed and available community resources Follow-up with youth, parents, and agencies as appropriate to regarding referrals

Maintain case note documentation, data collection Provide all required documentation in a timely manner, which may include youth follow-up, outcome evaluation, and youth contact sheets Maintain a heavy caseload Adhere to agency policy, procedures, and the professional code of ethics

Other duties as assigned by supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to work with at risk youth
  • Ability to motivate others towards achieving goals
  • Ability to work independently with strong sense of focus, task-oriented, nonjudgmental, open personal qualities, clear sense of boundaries.
  • A strong sense of and respect for confidentiality involving both youth and fellow employees.
  • Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally diverse families and communities with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle and provide own transportation.
  • Valid drivers license.

Qualifying Education and Experience:

High school diploma with a minimum of two years experience in a similar position working with at-risk youth. Possession of a valid Texas Operator's License, Class C.

Pre-placement screening includes

  • Criminal history check
  • Drug, and alcohol testing
  • Motor vehicle review (MVR)
