Koinonia Homes for Teens is seeking a qualified and compassionate individual to join our team as a temporary part-time Mental Health Support Worker (MHSW) in our adolescent residential therapeutic program located in Orangevale. The Mental Health Support Worker opportunity includes:
The MHSW position supervises the youth's day-to-day activity in Koinonia's Homes for Teens residential program. The program serves youth 12 to 18 years of age who have had early childhood trauma with mental health and/or substance abuse issues that require residential treatment. With the assistance of coworkers, the MHSW position provides direct supervision for up to six youth as they complete their daily program activities.
Temporary Part-Time Schedule Available:
Position responsibilities include supervision of youth, transportation, role modeling appropriate and positive adult behavior, participating with social workers and youth in periodic group and individual therapy sessions, performing routine household and grounds maintenance on occasion, performing food services for youth on occasion, and preparing paperwork and reports.
The ideal candidate will be a compassionate individual with good boundaries who has a passion for helping at-risk youth. They will also have good interpersonal and communication skills; good time management and organizational skills; be reliable and dependable; work productively under minimal supervision; have a high degree of integrity and confidentiality; have a reliable means of transportation; and a schedule that is flexible to meet work requirements. Must be at least 21 years of age (as required by state law), and have experience working with youth (including but not limited to coaching, tutoring, mentoring, daycare, volunteering or working in a school), OR a bachelor's degree, OR teaching certificate, OR Alcohol and Other Drug certification.

Qualified candidates must complete a criminal background clearance through the California Department of Justice and FBI to ensure eligibility for employment, as well as a pre-employment physical and TB test.
This position requires a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation as driving is an essential job function. The MHSW must be able to safely and reliably transport youth to medical appointments, therapy sessions, educational activities, and other essential services that support their overall well-being. In addition, the MHSW must be prepared to respond to crisis situations by providing immediate transportation to ensure the safety and security of the youth, often in locations not easily accessible by alternative transportation methods. The nature of these responsibilities necessitates the ability to drive to ensure timely, reliable, confidential and effective support for the youth and families we serve.
