The Salvation Army Family Haven Shelter located in St. Louis MO is looking fora Mental Health Counselor.This individual will provide mental health and substance abuse assessment intervention treatment planning counseling and referrals for veterans clients and their families. This position will provide individual group and family counseling and prevention services. Educate staff and residents on crisis intervention stress management mental health trauma resilience and addiction. This is a Full-time 40 hours per week with salary of 63000- 73000 depending on education and experiences.Essential FunctionsBehavioral HealthConduct assessments including psycho-social of admitted clients to determine the clients need of mental health and or trauma treatment and make referrals for on-going psychiatric treatment as appropriate. Monitor clients compliance with psychiatric treatment plans through consultation and coordination with clients psychiatric service provider. Develop monitor and update individualized service plan goals for clients identified as dually diagnosed. Provide individual group and family counseling sessions to facilitate achievement of clients goals. Resident Care TeamAssist Resident Care Team in recognizing and treating mental health trauma and psycho-social challenges. Work closely with clients case manager to facilitate clients focus and stability.Conduct client home visit as needed as part of outreach team in an effort to re-engage client or assess for safety in home environment.Provide regular scheduled on-call" service for crisis intervention. Record KeepingMaintain treatment attendance record on all residents and coordinate attempt re-engagement of clients for missed sessions including coordination of outreach to client with case manager.Maintain client files fill out all pertinent forms share pertinent information with key staff keep ongoing case notes of clients progress and maintain case record in accordance with agency standards. Maintain statistical data for agency reporting.Training & OutreachProvide prevention services by regularly educating staff and residents on mental health trauma co-dependency stress management and other mental health issues.Maintain community outreach by networking with community organizations related to mental health substance abuse and crisis intervention such as BHR NCDA NAMI etc.May conduct clients evening training sessions.May provide clinical supervision to practicum students ProfessionalismAdhere to professional standards of practice. Appropriately represent The Salvation Army in the community.Participate in regular staff meetings and trainings. Maintain confidentiality practice Salvation Army code of ethics and comply with Salvation Army Safe From Harm guidelines.Maintain positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients co-workers and supervisors. This includes but is not limited to such actions as resolution of conflicts in a professional manner courteous treatment of staff visitors and clients respect of others property and person and professional and appropriate communication to and about clients co-workers and supervisors.Education and ExperienceMasters degree in counseling social work human services or related field with at least two years of related work experience in mental health andor addiction counseling. Combination of education and experience will be considered. LPC or LCSW or licensure eligibility required CCDP and Substance Abuse Supervision credentials are a plus. Must have an outgoing personality with good communication skills ability to work in a team setting and an ability to work with difficult individuals. Strong leadership style and good organizational skills required. Knowledge of The Salvation Army and government state and community resources is helpful. Must be computer literate and able to utilize computers for documentation of work. CPRFirst Aid certification required. Must be a team player a self-starter able to handle several projects at the same time and perform well with minimum supervision. Must demonstrate ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment. Requires a high level of confidentiality. Must have a valid drivers license and pass TSA MVR check.Physical and Work Environment RequirementsMust be capable of performing the above essential duties in an office environment to include using a computer answering phones etc. Most work will be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment. May require some travel to client homes for outreach services.
