GENERAL STATEMENT OF FUNCTION:
The Mental Health Counselor provides mental health counseling, crisis intervention, assessment, referral, and support services to students and employees of the college. Working under the direction of the Coordinator of Mental Health Services, the counselor promotes student well-being, retention, and success through direct clinical services, outreach activities, and collaboration with campus and community resources.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide individual and group mental health counseling services to students and employees.
- Conduct intake assessments and evaluate the mental health needs of students and employees.
- Provide crisis intervention and evaluation to students and individuals in need.
- Develop treatment plans and maintain appropriate documentation in accordance with accepted professional standards and applicable laws and regulations.
- Maintain confidential student information according to FERPA and HIPAA and maintain complete mental health treatment records.
- Provide referrals to community mental health providers, healthcare professionals, and other support services, as appropriate.
- Facilitate support groups, workshops, and psychoeducational programming designed to promote mental wellness, resilience, stress management, and student success.
- Assist the Coordinator of Mental Health Services with the implementation of mental health awareness programs, outreach initiatives, educational programming, professional development opportunities, and special events.
- Assist in providing mental health education, training, and professional development opportunities for students, faculty, staff, coaches, sponsors, and other campus groups.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, coaches, sponsors, and other college personnel to support student mental wellness and success.
- Assist in providing support and resources for neurodiverse students in collaboration with other departments and divisions.
- Participate in outreach activities designed to increase awareness and utilization of mental health services.
- Coordinate with local mental health agencies and community partners as directed by the Coordinator of Mental Health Services.
- Provide emergency services after-hours/weekends, as needed.
- Serve on various college committees as assigned.
- Participate in various community relations activities for the college, including, but not limited to, Commencement Ceremonies, Homecoming, etc.
- Seek and participate in various professional development opportunities that are job specific, including required sessions offered by the college.
- Obtain and document the required number of professional development hours each school year.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
