What You'll Do:
As a Medication Technician, you will carry out our Mission of Love by ensuring the care of our residents is provided in a safe, caring, timely, and appropriate manner by maintaining the appropriate competencies and skills through continuing education that encompasses all of these areas. This will include assisting our residents in reaching or attaining the highest potential in their physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.
Our Medication Technician is responsible for the following:
- Provides care for our residents in a safe, caring, timely and appropriate manner to assist each resident in attaining their highest potential in their physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.
- Deliver and document the administration of resident medications as directed by provider orders/medication administrations records (MAR/TAR).
- Successfully complete medication pass with trainer 2 times a year or as directed by DHS regulations.
- Assesses resident's condition and nursing care needs to assure that medications, treatments, and care are provided as ordered per provider orders.
- Maintains appropriate documentation of nursing observations, including follow-up documentation in the medical record in accordance with acceptable standards of practice.
- Performs vital signs, glucometer readings, PVRs and other testing as needed.
- Responsible to complete admission/discharge procedures.
- Responds to Fire and Disaster alarms and drills according to procedures. Assists residents to safety during an evacuation.
- Maintains compliance with OSHA, Department of Human Services regulations, and other local, state and federal regulations. Maintains Medication Technician Certification in good standing. Maintains competencies and skills through continued education, including inservice education programs and nursing staff meetings. Maintains current CPR/First Aid certification and Diabetic recertification annually.
- Actively participates in change of shift report concerning condition of residents and any occurrences.
- Maintains accountability for counting narcotics at change of shift with licensed nurse and reports any discrepancies upon first notice.
- Report's observations, changes, unusual conditions or reactions to the Nursing Supervisor or Manager of Nursing Services in a timely manner.
- Communicates effectively with residents, family members, visitors and co-workers. Establishes and maintains collaborative communication with providers, other health professionals and Masonic Village departments.
- Functions as an advocate for the resident and resident's family by supplying and interpreting information. Participates in resident and family education as planned.
What You Need as a Medication Technician:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of DHS Direct Care Training.
- CPR and First Aid certification (prior to or upon employment).
- Previous experience in Personal Care environment preferred.
- Basic computer knowledge required.
- Effective oral and written communication skills required.
- Successful completion of the DHS Medication Administration course and maintain competency associated with the DHS Medication Administration course.
