The Medical Technologist (MT) at W.W. Hastings Hospital is responsible for performing a wide range of clinical laboratory tests and procedures to assist physicians in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The role involves operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, analyzing specimens, ensuring accuracy of test results, and maintaining compliance with laboratory standards and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities
" Perform clinical laboratory testing in areas such as chemistry, hematology, and blood bank following established laboratory procedures.
" Operate and maintain chemistry analyzers, including Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics Vitros systems, ensuring accurate and timely test results.
" Conduct blood bank testing, including blood typing, crossmatching, antibody screening, and preparation of blood products for transfusion.
" Analyze and verify laboratory results, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and compliance with quality control standards.
" Use Cerner Millennium Laboratory Information System to document, review, and report patient test results.
" Follow quality assurance and laboratory safety protocols, including infection control and specimen handling procedures.
" Work with pediatric and adult patient specimens, ensuring proper processing and testing.
" Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and perform routine quality control checks.
" Communicate critical test results to physicians, nurses, and healthcare staff promptly.
" Maintain accurate documentation and laboratory records according to hospital and regulatory guidelines.
" Assist with specimen collection or phlebotomy when required (preferred skill).
" Collaborate with laboratory staff and other healthcare professionals to ensure efficient laboratory workflow and patient care.

Candidates must hold current certifications including:
" Basic Life Support (BLS)
" ASCP or AMT (American Society of Clinical Pathologists or American Medical Technologists)

" Ability to handle and process biological specimens such as blood and other body fluids while following safety protocols.

" Good visual acuity to read test results, labels, and laboratory instruments accurately.

" Ability to work in a laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals, biological materials, and laboratory equipment while following safety guidelines.

" Ability to perform repetitive tasks, including specimen preparation and testing procedures.
"
" Capability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, masks, and lab coats during laboratory procedures.
