Responsibilities:
- The Medical Technologist Supervisor professional responsibility within their scope of practice:
- Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the
- organization's values.
- Adheres 16 hospital policies including confidentiality.
- Requires regular and prompt attendance.
- Works the assigned schedule including overtime and call as required.
- Maintains professional expertise and knowledge.
- Participates in continuing education activities.
- The Medical Technologist Supervisor patient c11re/department responsibilities:
- Requires minimal supervision to safely perform patient care/essential functions.
- Utilizes proper body mechanics when:
- Moving, positioning and transferring patients without assistance or with assistance when needed for patient safety
- Moving equipment/supplies that is necessary to perform essential functions
- Introduces or reviews and approves all new procedures added to section in association with Medical Director.
- Provides orientation to new employees.
- Supervises the performance of testing in the section or on shift.
- Maintains inventory control.
- Monitors the quality of work in section or on shift.
- Maintains quality improvement program.
- Oversees the performance and reporting of proficiency testing that is performed by technical staff.
- Follows standard procedures to perform laboratory testing as required, i.e., hematology, coagulation, chemistry, urinalysis, immunochemistry, blood banking, flow cytometry, and/or microbiology (bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteriology and virology).
- Operates and utilizes necessary programs on LIS, HIS, or PC.
- Provides coverage for blood collections as necessary.
- Provides continuing education for employees.
- Interviews and contributes to the selection of new employees.
- Follows procedures for hazardous waste management.
- Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
- Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
- Regular and prompt attendance
- Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
- Related duties as assigned
Additional Information:
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama with major course work in Medical Technology or related sciences 4 years clinical laboratory experience Required
- ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist Certification with the American Society of Clinical Pathologist as a Medical Technologist Required or
- MLS - Medical Lab Scientist (Formally MT Certification) Required
- Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
