Job Title: Medical Technologist (ASCP)

Location: Overland Park, KS
Job Type: Permanent
Schedule: Full-Time – Nights (Rotating Weekends)


Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Technologist (ASCP) to join an acute care hospital laboratory team.

This role is responsible for performing a wide range of pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic laboratory procedures in accordance with CLIA standards. The technologist will handle blood and body fluid specimen testing, ensure quality control, troubleshoot issues, and support laboratory operations and training initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have strong Blood Bank experience within an acute care hospital environment.


Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Testing & Analysis

  • Perform waived, moderate, and high-complexity laboratory testing
  • Analyze blood and body fluid specimens in accordance with CLIA standards
  • Correlate abnormal lab data with pathological conditions
  • Investigate unexpected results and determine appropriate follow-up testing

Pre-Analytic & Post-Analytic Functions

  • Perform specimen collection and processing
  • Complete clerical duties and data entry
  • Verify and accurately report laboratory test results
  • Monitor and document quality control procedures

Laboratory Operations

  • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents
  • Ensure proper functioning of equipment including:
    • Refrigerators
    • Freezers
    • Centrifuges
  • Maintain a safe and compliant laboratory environment
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives

Training & Education

  • Assist in training laboratory staff including:
    • LTA
    • CLT
    • MLT
    • MT personnel
  • Support clinical laboratory science student education
  • Assist in evaluating new testing methodologies and instrumentation

Shift Information

  • Full-Time Nights with rotating weekends
  • Optional schedule: Thursday – Sunday night shifts

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related science (required)
    OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree with certification in a laboratory subspecialty
    OR
  • “Grandfathered” Medical Technologist status under CLIA ‘88

Certifications

One of the following certifications is required:

  • Medical Technologist (ASCP)
  • CLS (NCA)
  • BB (ASCP)
  • C (ASCP)
  • I (ASCP)
  • H (ASCP)
  • M (ASCP)
  • Equivalent certification accepted

Experience

  • Minimum 1+ year of recent Blood Bank experience (required)
  • Experience must be within an acute care hospital laboratory setting
  • Non-acute care experience will not be considered
