Your Valued Contributions Within the applicable scope of current certification, licensure, competency, and/or credential, you will assist providers in the administration of patient care in assigned clinical areas. Your responsibilities include:

• Assisting in examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, and treatment of patients under the direction of a Medical Provider. • Performing general administrative duties in accordance with CLIA, NCQA, PCMH, government standards, and company policies and procedures. • Supporting and assisting clinical providers and professionals. • Participating in huddles with providers and the care team. • Identifying scheduling opportunities, determining special needs for patients arriving that clinic day, and identifying patients who need care outside of their scheduled visit and those with missed appointments needing rescheduling. • Screening and responding to patient phone messages in a timely manner according to health center guidelines. • Collaborating with providers, acting on provider responses, and communicating with patients. • Providing complete patient assessment, including consistently and accurately gathering information such as vital signs and pre-examination procedures. • Documenting data and assessments in the patient record. • Reconciling patients medications and allergies at every visit. • Adding, discontinuing, and renewing medications per provider orders. • Updating allergy lists per patient self-report, witnessed reaction, or verified documentation. • Ensuring medication dates are updated to match the current year. • Assisting in all aspects of patient consultation, treatment, procedures, and follow-up care. • Executing medical regimens, including MSS workflow and monitoring inventory and nursing interventions. • Maintaining the cleanliness and general appearance of work examination and treatment areas.

Section 2: Skills and Qualifications

Within the scope of practice and direction of the provider, you will assist in all aspects of patient consultation, treatment, procedures, and follow-up care. You will execute medical regimens, including MSS workflow and monitoring inventory and nursing interventions, including tracking patient orders as appropriate for the setting and their competency.

You will maintain the cleanliness and general appearance of work examination and treatment areas, clean, disinfect, sterilize, and maintain equipment and instruments following universal precautions, infection control, and hazardous waste removal practices.

In collaboration with the provider, you will provide patient health counseling and instruction. You will maintain a general understanding of UDS measures, MQIC guidelines, HEDIS measures, PCMH, and NCQA standards. You will utilize appropriate resources to guide practice, including the Lippincott manual and MQIC guidelines.

Section 3: Responsibilities

You will perform routine medical tasks within the scope of your license or certification. You will administer patient care independently and skillfully, applying both simple and complex techniques and processes that are specific to the needs of the patient.

You will skillfully and competently prepare and administer medications, immunizations, and injections as directed by the medical provider. You will understand autoclave use, consistently clean and sterilize equipment. You will draw, prepare, and designate lab work and/or specimens as directed by the provider, once deemed competent if not already supported by active credential.

You will perform designated diagnostic tests as directed by the provider. You will recognize and react effectively to emergency situations, seeking assistance and intervening appropriately and within the scope of practice. You will notify the appropriate people in the event of a medical emergency.

You will provide detailed patient education to patients and family members, including the use of a nebulizer, giving an injection, dressing a wound, etc., following prescribed teaching plans.

Section 4: General Tasks

You will answer telephones, take messages, schedule appointments, test or procedures, arrange referrals, and perform other administrative duties to meet the needs of patients, coworkers, and the department.

Staff telephone messages will be checked at least twice daily, and calls will be returned the same day. Your work email will be checked daily. You will initiate communication with patients and family to determine individual needs of patients, families, and significant others.

You will recognize limitations and initiate communication with coworkers and colleagues to share and exchange ideas and information about related activities and needs.

You will initiate contact with new employees and students, assessing their level of competency and helping to develop their skills and knowledge.

You will ensure timely completion of referrals and prior authorization forms according to the patients insurance for specialty clinics, medications, and testing.

Section 5: Required Training & Experience

To be considered for this position, you must possess:

• A current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) CPR certification or obtain within six months of start of employment. • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program certification or registration. • Completion of a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) course or licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Paramedic. • The ability to secure transportation to allow for reliable and timely work attendance, including when business is required to be conducted at sites other than your primary worksite. • The ability to use the Electronic Health Records system effectively.
