Medical Receptionist

Job Type: Full-Time Schedule: Set 3 12 hour shifts Monday Wednesday Thursday. Hours: 7:45am - 8:15pm Work Location: Old West End Community Health Center

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED required

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to attend to multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and responsibilities to ensure compliance with established deadlines and protocols.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with persons from a wide diversity of social, ethnic, and economic backgrounds is necessary.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

  • Greet patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Receive calls and schedule appointments.
  • Answer screens telephone calls and forward to appropriate personnel.
  • Record phone messages and distribute appropriately.
  • Accurately enter patient information into the computer.
  • Assemble patient medical record.
  • Screen calls and visitors completely, determine the nature of the visit or phone call and the urgency of the contact to ensure a timely, efficient, and appropriate response.
  • Take and distribute detailed and accurate phone messages using the correct format to the appropriate staff member or area designated for phone messages.
  • Assist management in reaching personnel from other departments when needed for consultation and referral. Determine items that can be handled personally, those which should be brought to the attention of the supervisor, and those which should be referred to other areas.
  • Ensure the equipment is functional and there is an adequate supply of all necessary forms stocked.
  • Assist patients with completing information forms as needed.
  • Accurately document in patient medical/dental record as needed.
  • Accept patient payments and record payments accurately.
  • Copy income verification and enter information into Electronic Health Records.
  • Retrieve lab reports/patient records from other health care providers.
  • Accurately type and send correspondence, memos, notices, and reports.
  • Sort files and retrieve correspondence records and documents upon request.
  • Operate standard office machines and equipment.
  • Sort, collate mail and printed materials/notices for distribution.
  • Cross train in other areas of office procedures.
  • Make confirmation calls to patients for appointments.
  • Accurately code all diagnoses in Electronic Health Records based on completed encounter forms.
  • Collect and accurately input patient payments into practice management system.
  • Participate in the Quality Improvement Program and serve on other committees as assigned.
  • Travel when necessary to meet operational needs.
  • May supervise student employees in specified tasks.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Work Environment Work is primarily sedentary, demanding sitting, walking, lifting, and bending. Those physical movements and the degree of mobility, manual dexterity, and hand-eye coordination commonly associated with duties in an office setting will be performed repetitively. This also includes bending, twisting, reaching, lifting, pulling, pushing, and walking. The ability to distinguish letters and symbols and utilize telephones, computer terminals, fax machines, and copiers is required.
