Duties and Responsibilities:

• Greets incoming patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner. • Registers patients into the computer system for each encounter by obtaining accurate demographic and insurance information. • Verifies insurance benefits and eligibility using insurance verification software and/or payer websites. • Verifies the identity of all patients. • Initiates upfront collections, advising patients of any co-pay, deductible, and deposit amounts. • Provides necessary information to self-pay patients, including self-pay discounts, payment plans, and referring to Office Manager/Supervisor and/or the Billing Office as needed. • Ensures appropriate forms are signed and, if applicable, scanned into the electronic health record (EHR) in a timely and accurate manner. • Maintains proficient knowledge of scanning and indexing information for the patient record. • Courteously and quickly answers incoming phone calls and routes to the appropriate person or creates a detailed message in the EHR for practice staff. • Appropriately uses telephone and intercom systems. • Adheres to the policy that direct patient care should not be interrupted unless absolutely necessary.

Education/Qualifications:

Required:

• High school graduate or possess a GED • Good interpersonal and communication skills • General office skills, including typing, use of computers, and everyday job performance

Preferred:

• Efficiency in using internet/email, EHR, and data entry • Medical office experience • Medical terminology and insurance experience
